TTT – Book Titles That Would Make Great Song Titles

Top Ten Tuesday used to be a weekly post hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, but was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl. “It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.” This is definitely something I can understand and want to participate in.

This week’s prompt was submitted by Deanna @ A Novel Glimpse and it’s all about book titles that would make great song titles.

Okay, so this post is really going to highlight my eclectic musical taste. However, I also feel like some of these choices are going to show my age, so try not to judge me on this!

  1. A Reaper at the Gates by Sabaa Tahir — I can picture listening to a heavy metal album and coming across this as a song title. It would probably slay too.
  2. Horrid by Katrina Leno — Here’s where I’m going to show my age. Remember that band Kittie? Because I wouldn’t be surprised to find this as a song title on one of their CDs. I kind of also feel like it would work well on a goth album too, maybe something like Switchblade Symphony.
  3. Kingdom of the Wicked by Kerri Maniscalco — This would absolutely be another metal song. I also think it could work for a classic rock song name, for a band like Black Sabbath or Led Zeppelin. Ironically, the cover image would also work for an album cover too!
  4. Such a Fun Age by Kiley Reid — When I think of this one, it brings to mind an upbeat punk rock type of song. Not exactly the tone of the book, but that’s just what the name makes me think of.
  5. Winter by Marissa Meyer — I couldn’t pass this one up, because it actually is a song title by Tori Amos. So I immediately think of it as alternative music that’s heavy on the piano with gorgeous vocals and deep lyrics. I seriously love me some Tori Amos music. My friends and I would make each other tapes and mix CDs (told you I’d show my age).
  6. Deal With the Devil by Kit Rocha — I’m 99% sure there’s a song out there that’s got to have this title already, and if there isn’t, why the heck not? This would definitely be a rock or metal song (at least it is in my imagination).
  7. This Savage Song by V.E. Schwab — Since music plays so heavily into this book, it naturally came to mind when thinking of book names that could double as song titles. I picture it as an alternative song, possibly grunge, or maybe even the really cool music that Lindsey Stirling plays on her violin that’s a combination between classical and electronica.
  8. Opium and Absinthe by Lydia Kang — I kind of envision an EDM song with this title. It brings to mind Crimson and Clover (from the late 60s) but with a more modern twist.
  9. Cinderella is Dead by Kalynn Bayron — I think of this one as a pop song. Something upbeat and empowering, about how women can make decisions for themselves and go against the grain. Kind of like the book itself.
  10. The Last Summer by Cait Marie — I see this as more of an indie song title, something like The Lumineers. A song that’s kind of sweet, soft, slow, and romantic. The kind of song you’d play at prom or something.

  1. Ahh I LOVE this list yes! All the titles are just spot on with the descriptions… I’ll especially be rooting for This Savage Song… I haven’t read the book yet but I think apart from the name, the cover art makes a good album cover as well. 😆

      • I basically like everything other than country or jazz. I have such diverse musical taste that people would just be so surprised if I put music on shuffle for them – it’ll go from one thing to something completely different every single song. Road trips are never boring though!

    • I feel like there’s a bunch of bands that have done a song called Dance With the Devil, but I kind of think there has to also be at least one song that’s also been called Deal With the Devil, right? If not, bands have really been missing out on a great song title!

  2. Love your choices and your explanations for each! Cinderella is Dead would make a super fab upbeat and empowering pop beat for sure 😍 This Savage Song is also perfect especially with how much music plays a role in the story itself! Great list, Leah 😀

  3. “Winter” by Tori Amos is such a beautiful song! So many of her songs are little stories, it makes sense that they could be titles of books, too! Great list, and shout out to making mix tapes and CDs for and with your friends- those are some of my favorite memories from the 90’s/early 2000’s.

  4. Some of these would make great band names, too — I’m thinking Opium & Absinthe especially. I’m imagining Evanescence, but more goth.

Such a Fun Age would either be a funny indie pop band like Belle & Sebastian, or something super emo and full of teen angst.

And Cinderella is Dead would totally be an underground death punk band that performs in abandoned warehouses and unlicensed underground bars.
