2020 Book Tag

I was tagged to do this by Riddhi at Whispering Stories. If you haven’t visited her blog, you totally should and follow her, since she’s awesome!

Here’s the rules:

  • Link back to the original creator, Phoenix @ Books With Wings
  • Thank the person who tagged you
  • Answer all the questions
  • Tag at least 4 people
  • At the bottom, talk about some other books you read in 2020! (this isn’t required, just suggested!)

Please note: Just because this is a book tag about 2020, the books you talk about do not have to have been read by you in 2020.

PART ONE: BEGINNING OF THE YEAR

  • A book you were really excited for

Black Sun by Rebecca Roanhorse was one of the books (among many) that I was super excited about.

  • A book that started out really well

Take a Hint, Dani Brown by Talia Hibbert. It starts with a scene full of Dani’s humor, and I just loved her personality, and it only got better from there.

PART TWO: THE WORLD GOES ON HOLD

  • A book that had an unexpected plot twist

Golden Son by Pierce Brown. I could never quite figure out anything that was going to happen next, all of the plot twists were so unexpected!

  • A book where you felt like nothing happened

The Stars and the Blackness Between Them by Junauda Petrus. For a book that was supposed to be a romance, there wasn’t even a HINT of romance until 70% of the way in, and neither character acted on it until the book was nearly over. It just felt like I was reading forever.

  • A book where two main characters were separated

Dragonfly in Amber by Diana Gabaldon. I loved this series, and Claire and Jamie being separated was so painful!

PART THREE: THE WORLD TRIES TO REOPEN (AND BEGINS A SECOND WAVE OF THE PANDEMIC)

  • A book in which the characters made a bad decision

Don’t all books involve characters making bad decisions? I guess I’d have to say Lord of Shadows by Cassandra Clare, since I just finished reading it and seriously, all of the characters make bad decisions at least once during the book.

  • A book with an impatient/overly eager character

These Violent Delights by Chloe Gong. Tyler was definitely too overeager, and he was also such a jerk! But the book was so good!

PART FOUR: THE WORLD ADJUSTS (SORT OF)

  • A book in which the character’s goals change midway

Such a Fun Age by Kiley Reid. I loved seeing Emira’s goal changing over the course of the story.

PART FIVE: THE END & LOOKING FORWARDS

  • A book whose sequel you really anticipated/are anticipating

Kingdom of the Wicked by Kerri Maniscalco. I have to know what happens next!

  • A book whose sequel was better than the original

Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas. The first book was my least favorite in the series (even though it was still good), and I found that I liked each additional book more.

  • A book you read just to finish it (didn’t like it but wanted to finish anyway)

The Librarian of Auschwitz by Antonio Iturbe. I had to read this to lead a book club discussion, but it was awful. The author also misappropriated and misrepresented Jewish culture and religious customs, which may not be readily apparent to people who aren’t familiar with them.

Since 2020 is just about over, I’m not going to tag anyone, but if you’d like to participate, consider yourself tagged!

  1. Thank you so much for doing my tag! I loved reading your answers! I could never get into the Red Rising books by Pierce Brown but it looks like you enjoyed them so that’s interesting! Maybe one day I’ll give them another try. Oooh, I’m just about to start reading These Violent Delights, I’m sooooo excited.
Ew, that last book you mentioned sounds awful, that’s terrible and I’m sorry you had to go through that!
Just a reiteration: just because it’s a book tag about 2020 doesn’t mean you had to do this during 2020. I probably should have been more specific about that in my own post and I’m realizing that this tag is probably going to trickle out once 2020 is done but you can totally still tag people! It doesn’t have to be done in 2020. It’s more like…a tag mocking 2020 and stuff like that. It’s about the year. So yeah.
    Anyways, loved reading this!

    • Thank you for checking it out! I loved doing the tag so much, and it was so creative. These Violent Delights was such a great read, and you should totally give Red Rising another try – it’s a bit slow at first, but it really picks up and gets so good that I couldn’t put the series down! I could see how this tag could be done after the year is over, I didn’t realize before – sorry about that. But here’s to a better 2021! 🥂

      • Thank you! Yeah, I own These Violent Delights now (thank you, Christmas!) and I can’t wait to start it! Okay! I read Red Rising almost two years ago and I just…meh. We’ll see if I decide to pick it up again.
Oh, it’s totally okay, I understand the confusion and it’s completely my fault. I’ll add a thing to my own post about how it can be done after 2020 is over and…well, we’ll see if anyone actually does it ha ha.

  2. Oh no about The Librarian of Auschwitz! That was one book that I’ve been so looking forward to reading for quite a long time but I hadn’t heard any reviews saying anything about how awfully it was done 😭 I’m so sorry to hear that!
Great tag and answers though. I’m quite excited to read many of these and hopefully can get to them this year!
