Top Ten Tuesday

TTT – Animals From Books

Top Ten Tuesday used to be a weekly post hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, but was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl. “It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.” This is definitely something I can understand and want to participate in.

I’m definitely an animal lover in real life, so naturally, I love when animals are featured in books. This week’s Top Ten Tuesday topic is perfect for me, so thank you to Paige @ paigesquared and Jennifer Y. @ Never Too Many to Read for this week’s prompt, which is animals from books. There’s a lot of leeway in this, which I plan to take full advantage of:

  1. Solovey the horse from The Winternight Trilogy by Katherine Arden. Come on, like a brilliant horse wouldn’t make it onto this list? He was one of my favorite characters in the whole series!
  2. Trassel the wolf from the Six of Crows duology by Leigh Bardugo. I have a soft spot for wolves, and he was such a cool one! Even if Matthias was a jerk at first.
  3. Kikkoman the pug from the A Noodle Shop Mystery series by Vivien Chien. While she doesn’t play a huge role in the books that I’ve read from this series, I adore the scenes where she pops up. Plus, she snorts like pugs do in real life and it makes my heart melt.
  4. Kamala the horse in The Star-Touched Queen by Roshani Chokshi. She’s the comic relief in this story, and her personality is amazing. I loved when she came into the story, and stuck around.
  5. Volk the wolf in Pyotra and the Wolf by Elna Holst. Volk was a great character, and I loved her complexity. She made this book so enjoyable, and I loved how it all worked so well together.
  6. Barf the cat in The Merciful Crow series by Margaret Owen. This cat has some serious personality, and how can you not love a cat named BARF?
  7. Danika the wolf from House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J. Maas. A bad-ass wolf shifter who patrols the city wit her pack to keep it safe is someone I can definitely root for. I just wish she was around for more of the book.
  8. Rook the raven from An Enchantment of Ravens by Margaret Rogerson. I’ve read a lot of books with shapeshifters, but this is the first one where a character shifts into a bird. And it was done beautifully!
  9. Odin the dog in Wolf of Wessex by Matthew Harffy. This huge dog was amazing, and embodied how loyal and protective dogs are. He captured my heart early on and kept it for the whole book.
  10. Chairman Meow in the Shadowhunters books by Cassandra Clare. He’s got such an awesome name and the personality to match. I’d expect nothing less from Magnus Bane’s cat.

  1. I forgot about the Six of Crows wolf! I included a cat from the Shadowhunter’s realm; only I included Church. But Chairman Meow is awesome too!
