Top Ten Tuesday

TTT – Best Books I Read In 2021

Top Ten Tuesday used to be a weekly post hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, but was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl. “It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.” This is definitely something I can understand and want to participate in.

Wow, we’re in the last week of 2021, and it’s so strange. This year has both dragged and flown by, all at the same time. And as soon as I saw this prompt, I already knew that I wasn’t going to be able to limit myself to just 10 books. 2022 was an incredible year for books, even if the rest of the year was kind of sucky. So instead, I went back through my monthly wrap ups and checked out the books that I highlighted as my favorites for each month. Here’s my favorite books that I read in 2021:

  • January — Wings of Ebony by J. Elle and Beach Read by Emily Henry.
  • February — The Midnight Library by Matt Haig, Rent a Boyfriend by Gloria Chao, and A Court of Silver Flames by Sarah J. Maas.
  • March — Act Your Age, Eve Brown by Talia Hibbert and The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren.
  • April — Rule of Wolves by Leigh Bardugo, Firekeeper’s Daughter by Angeline Boulley, and The Bride Test by Helen Hoang.
  • May — The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt and Today Tonight Tomorrow by Rachel Lynn Solomon.
  • June — Malibu Rising by Taylor Jenkins Reid and Capture the Crown by Jennifer Estep.
  • July — Israel: A Simple Guide to the Most Misunderstood Country on Earth by Noa Tishby, If the Shoe Fits by Julie Murphy, and Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco.
  • August — The Last Nomad by Shugri Said Salh and Kate in Waiting by Becky Albertalli.
  • September — The Inheritance of Orquídea Divina by Zoraida Córdova and Love, Chai, and Other Four-Letter Words by Annika Sharma.
  • October —The City Beautiful by Aden Polydoros, The Trials of Morrigan Crow by Jessica Townsend, and Jade Legacy by Fonda Lee.
  • November — A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness and The Matzah Ball by Jean Meltzer.
  • December — The Dovekeepers by Alice Hoffman and Olga Dies Dreaming by Xóchitl González.

  1. I like how you’ve sorted your books month-wise, very neat! And I see you read Goldfinch (which I intend to read too one of these days…) Thanks for the recs, I’m adding several of these to my TBR.

    • Thank you! And A Discovery of Witches is such a great series!! I hope you give it a reread, especially with season 3 of the TV series coming out – I’ve found that it’s one of the better adaptations that I’ve seen.

  3. Very smart of you to pick a favorite book every month! I might have to try that to make picking yearly favorites easier.

I enjoyed FIREKEEPER’S DAUGHTER and THE UNHONEYMOONERS as well. THE MIDNIGHT LIBRARY was the first book I read this year and, unfortunately, I didn’t love it much as I wanted to.

Glad you found so many great books this year. Happy TTT!

    • Thank you – I actually list my favorites of the month in my monthly wrap up, so I just went through and it made life so much easier! And The MIdnight Library seems like one of those books that people either loved or just didn’t.

  4. I loved A Discovery of Witches! Such a fun book and series. From your list, I have also read The Midnight Library which I liked. Several other books on your list are on my TBR pile or my wish list. The Inheritance of Orquídea Divina especially. I hope you have a great New Year!
