TTT – Books I Wish Had A Sequel

Top Ten Tuesday used to be a weekly post hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, but was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl. “It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.” This is definitely something I can understand and want to participate in.

I’m 100% a series girl. I have a really hard time saying goodbye to characters, and often wish that there were more books to come, either following the characters in the original story or even telling the story of side characters. So instead of talking about books that I wish had an epilogue, I want to talk about books that I wish had a follow-up book or books. 

  1. Among the Beasts and Briars by Ashley Poston. There’s so many directions the author could take if she wanted to turn this into a series, mainly because there are so many characters that I ultimately wanted to learn more about—Cerys, Arwen, even Vala!
  2. Hell Followed With Us by Andrew Joseph White. This book was just amazing, and I want find out more about what happens to the characters after the events of this story. I hope they all have good lives and find a place for themselves after this story ends, although in this horrifying dystopian world they live in, I suspect that they’re going to face more challenges. Not to mention, I was also curious about a lot of their backstories as well.
  3. Siren Queen by Nghi Vo. This book was another incredible one, and I couldn’t help but wonder what happens next? I’m always curious about what happens after the story ends, and this is one of those times, since there has to be more to tell!
  4. This Rebel Heart by Katharine Locke. I fell in love with this story, and I just didn’t want to let go. How can Csilla just move on with her life after everything she’s been through, and I think that reading about her journey of adjusting to her new reality would also be intriguing.
  5. Time’s Convert by Deborah Harkness. I know this was the last book in the series, but I seriously want there to be more. I love the idea of delving into the backstory of other characters, because they’re all so different and I enjoy learning about what makes them all tick, so I’m obviously hoping to learn more about Gallowglass and hopefully Ysabeau.
  6. The Dovekeepers by Alice Hoffman. What happens after the cataclysmic end of this book? How does a character survive and move on when all seems to be lost? I’m so curious about this, especially since this is a historical event and I’ve actually been to this site and felt the weight of the events that went on here, even before reading this powerful story.
  7. Jade Legacy by Fonda Lee. This is a series that I would happily read for as long as it went on. Despite all the massive changes that went on throughout the books, it always felt fresh and intriguing, and I would love to see how the clan changes throughout time and under new leadership. 
  8. The Silence of Bones by June Hur. This story was so good, and I would love to see what happens next for Seol. She’s clearly a gifted detective, and I hoped that she would be able to use her skills and become an active part of the police force, benefiting both herself and her country.
  9. The Raven King by Maggie Stiefvater. After the end of this series, I always wondered what happened to these kids. Their quest is over, but there’s no way they’d stop exploring and trying to discover new mysteries, and it makes me think—are they going to stay in this small town or go on to make a name for themselves?
  10. Capturing the Devil by Kerri Maniscalco. What happens to Audrey Rose Wadsworth and Thomas Cresswell after the end of the series? Do they wind up happily ever after solving heinous crimes, or do they settle down and research and raise a brood of curious children who mildly flout social customs? I’d also love to see Cresswell’s sister’s story.

What are some books you’d love to see more of, or a spin-off for?

  1. You’re right on target with Raven King! I always did wonder what happened to them *after*. I thought this week’s TTT was pretty tough, I didn’t just want to make a list of standalones, but clearly we want “epilogues” to series reads as well. 🙂

  5. Time’s Convert is actually NOT the last book in the series. Harkness plans on writing a book for Gallowglass, and more follow ups to Diana and Matthew. (I cannot WAIT for Gallowglass’s book. He’s my faaaaaaaavorite. I just want him to be happy.) Great choices!

    • Thank you! And I’m absolutely thrilled to know that there’s more books in the works – I was heartbroken to reach the end of Time’s Convert! I adore Gallowglass and definitely want more of Diana and Matthew and the twins!!

  7. I like this take on the prompt. I could’ve totally come up with a list of books for this. Even though I think JK would probably ruin it now, I’d love to read a spin-off of when the Marauders were at Hogwarts. Too bad someone else can’t take up the mantle.

  8. I’m the same way. I LOVE a good series. The Fonda Lee series sounds so good, I’ve been wanting to try those. and the reviews have all been so positive, at least what I’ve seen…

  9. I love this take because I absolutely need more after Jade Legacy!! It’s such a BRILLIANT series and I would love to know how things kept going after the “legacies.” Great list!!

  12. Ooh nice ones! I agree about Capturing the Devil! I actually struggled with this one and not quite remembering what books had satisfying epilogues or not! I was searching through my archives for notes! Lol.
