TTT – Books On My Summer 2023 TBR

Top Ten Tuesday used to be a weekly post hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, but was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl. “It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.” This is definitely something I can understand and want to participate in.

It’s really feeling like summertime now. There are fun things going on, but there’s also some great books coming out! My TBR list is out of control, and I’ve been so focused on reading ARCs that I haven’t had a lot of time for pleasure reading, but there are some books coming out over the summer where I don’t have ARCs of them, so I’m hoping to get my hands on them to read too. Here are some of the books on my summer TBR:

  1. Light Bringer by Pierce Brown. I’ve requested an ARC of this, but we’ll see how it goes. I’m also going to have to reread all the other books in the series, which will only make me more excited about reading this one.
  2. The Sword Defiant by Gareth Hanrahan. I’ve seen so many good things about this book, and I’ve got a physical ARC of it.
  3. A Shadow Crown by Melissa Blair. I loved the first book, and have been eagerly waiting for this one to come out.
  4. Gods of the Wyrdwood by R.J. Barker. I completely fell for how pretty the cover is, but the blurb sounds really good, and I’m already starting to see a few good reviews.
  5. The Jasad Heir by Sara Hashem. SWANA-inspired fantasy is having its moment and I am loving it. This book looks like it is going to be a really good one.
  6. The Sun and the Void by Gabriela Romero-Lacruz. South American-inspired fantasy involving history and folklore? Oh hell yeah.
  7. The Mask of Mirrors by M.A. Carrick. I’ve heard from some really great people that this is a good one, so I’m super excited to get started on this series.
  8. The Phoenix King by Aparna Verma. Another type of fantasy that I’m starting to see more of is Indian-inspired fantasy, and I am digging it. This one looks fantastic, and the cover is so pretty!
  9. House of Marionne by J. Elle. I’ve been waiting for J. Elle to come out with another YA book, and this one is a romantasy, so I’m especially looking forward to this read.
  10. Some Shall Break by Ellie Marney. I’m so excited for this one, especially after how good the first book was!

What are some of the books on your summer TBR?

    • I promise that you absolutely will! I’m still struggling through the pile of ARCs I have, but the first pleasure read that I get to do is definitely going to be Dream Dancer! I *am* going on a vacation soon, maybe I’ll bring it as my “no pressure read.”

    • As a professional who has read multiple medically oriented fictional mysteries, I’m going to diagnose you with a Pierce Brown deficiency, and prescribe you to read Red Rising STAT!

  1. I’m working my way through both Gods of the Wyrdwood and The Phoenix King. Very different books! Gods of the Wyrdwood is slow and trippy, The Phoenix King very punchy and vibrant. Both recommended on how far I’ve got so far.
