TTT – Books On My Summer 2024 To-Read List

Top Ten Tuesday used to be a weekly post hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, but was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl. “It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.” This is definitely something I can understand and want to participate in.

I’ve been doing these seasonal TBR lists for a while now, and never bothered to follow up on my old lists in the past. It is only recently that I began checking in on my old lists, plus it is helpful in creating my new seasonal lists.

Let me start out by saying that Spring 2024 was a bit of a bumpy ride for me. I struggled with a low-level reading slump, a surprise family visit during Passover, a shoulder issue that impacted my ability to use the joint and required surgery last month, and of course, some social events. It’s important to find balance, right? So it didn’t come as a surprise to discover that I had completely neglected my Spring 2024 to-read list. I’ve continued to focus on my ARCs pretty much exclusively, so I’m just going to continue working off the same list as I had for spring, since I didn’t read a single book on this list:

  1. Light Bringer by Pierce Brown. This one is staying on my list, because I really want to read it.
  2. House of Flame and Shadow by Sarah J. Maas. This one is an obvious choice.
  3. Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros. Still haven’t started my buddy read, which reminds me….
  4. Empire of Wild by Cherie Dimaline. It still sounds fascinating, and I can’t wait to read it.
  5. The Ghosts of Rose Hill by R.M. Romero. Still want to read this one.
  6. The Bookish Life of Nina Hill by Abbi Waxman. I’ve wanted to read this one more and more since I got it.
  7. Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult. This came on a great recognition from a friend, and I found it in a used book sale for super cheap!
  8. Ink and Bone by Rachel Caine. Still want to read this one.
  9. Fairy Tale by Stephen King. A good friend gifted this to me, and I seriously want to start it.
  10. The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon. This has been on my TBR forever, and I want it to stop glaring at me accusingly from my shelf.

What’s on your Summer 2024 reading list?

  1. Though I don’t remember the book specifics, I did read Nina Hill a few years back. The concept is cute and of course, the cover too! Hope summer is better for you as you read and you enjoy your TBR hopefuls! 🙂

    • Yes! It’s written in verse, which I love. I haven’t gotten to visit Prague yet, but I really adore reading a book about a place I’ve visited so I can visualize it realistically in my head.

    • It’s been feeling so much better than it was last month, but I’m definitely pretty slumpy myself, especially compared to previous years. Audiobooks are a literal lifesaver for me. Hope your slump lets up soon.

  2. Ouch! Shoulder problems are the worst. I dealt with frozen shoulder for a couple of years and it was agony a lot of the time. I hope yours is feeling better.

I hope you enjoy all these books. NINETEEN MINUTES is engrossing. It’s about a tough subject, but it’s a gripping page turner.

    Happy TTT!

    • They thought I had frozen shoulder until the surgery, and discovered it was a bone spur and arthritis, but it’s so much better than it was before the surgery. Now I just have to continue working on range of motion and strengthening.

My bestie told me I need to read Nineteen Minutes, and gave me a heads up on the subject, so I’m looking forward to it.

  3. I keep meaning to ask how you are doing after your surgery. I hope that you are continuing to get better.

A lot of good looking books on your list.

I fail every season but enjoy making the lists so 😂

I have Fourth Wing waiting for me. It’s a large book though so I have no idea when I will find the time to read it.

    Have a great week!

    • I’m doing really well – working on strengthening the shoulder and arm now after improving my range of motion.

Don’t feel bad, I fail every season too. This is actually the same list I had for last season! But it’s still fun, and a great feeling when I’ve read even a single book, which is why I make them each season.

Fourth Wing is waiting for me as well, and I’m reading it with a friend, so that’s some serious motivation to get it read.

Thanks for popping in, and hope you had a great week. So sorry for the extra late reply!

      • That’s good to hear. There are so many things that can be done these days!

I include Blog Tour books which I know have to be read so that I actually get some of them read otherwise I would never get anything ticked off! Buddy reading is a good idea. For the past 2 years I have done a buddy read with my sister and cousin. My sister is a teacher (and Head of Art and Photography) and my cousin has just finished University and is working so it is difficult to coordinate more than once a year 🤣

That’s ok. Absolutely no need to apologise!

      • I have three or four women that I buddy read with, but our schedules have to coordinate between all of our responsibilities. So I completely get that – I should probably start including some of my ARCs so that I can check something off and feel a little better about myself 🤣

    • I’m not surprised to discover that we are planning to read similar books over the summer. And we seriously need to schedule our buddy read already. I’m going to send you a message before I forget 🤣
