Top Ten Tuesday used to be a weekly post hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, but was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl. “It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.” This is definitely something I can understand and want to participate in.
This week’s prompt is halfway to a freebie, allowing us to pick a range of books with a specific type of cover. And lately, I’ve been loving book covers with the cartoon-type characters. Here’s a list of ten of my favorite books featuring characters that are drawn in that style:

- Witch Please by Ann Aguirre
- Bad Luck Bridesmaid by Alison Rose Greenberg
- Bravely by Maggie Stiefvater
- The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood
- The Dating Plan by Sara Desai
- We Can’t Keep Meeting Like This by Rachel Lynn Solomon
- Nevermoor by Jessica Townsend
- The Donut Trap by Julie Tieu
- The Matzah Ball by Jean Meltzer
- Once More With Chutzpah by Haley Neil
What are some of your favorite books with this type of cover?

Cute idea. It seems like illustrations are more timeless than photographs on the cover. I considered flowers or a spring theme but then opted for weirdly awful classic covers My TTT is here. Please visit and comment. Thanks.

Thank you! I think these are going to age better than the Fabio-type ones lol! I considered flowers, but recently did a post about that. Weirdly awful classic covers sounds intriguing!

Great list. I also like this kind of covers. I even added Witch Please to my TBR without reading the synopsis: I just loved the cover and wanted to read the book :-D!

Thank you! I love hearing about people adding books from my posts to their TBR – I hope you love the story as much as I did!

I’ve noticed a real trend of books of faceless people lately, but most your cartoon people have faces. I guess they are hard to draw!

I’ve noticed that for some books too, but I definitely prefer faces. I can barely draw a stick figure, so I’m always impressed by any type of art.

Same. I do sometimes get cover envy though when some countries have better covers than the ones here in the UK 🤣😂

Haha because I get cover envy for how much prettier British covers are than American ones!

We always want what we don’t have access to!

We do! Maybe that’s the problem. Or if they just made them the same?! I know that they try to cater to the different markets, but surely we arent that different that we need different covers?! The one I am most envious of is the ACOTAR series. Honestly the UK ones are so disappointing in comparision!

🤷🏻♀️ who knows why they do that. And I loved the old ACOTAR covers, hate the new style. I’ll have to check out the UK version

There will be someone making money somewhere. Haha I did a post on it – 25 February – Friday Faceoff. I got the covers from Goodreads so it might be quicker to look on there!

I can’t wait to read Bravely! Interestingly enough, it fits the theme of my post this week, too. 🙂

Good idea! I did notice this trend that rom-com type stories go for the more basic cartoonish images. It’s a thing now.

Thank you! I kind of like it, especially after the long trend of Fabio-type covers on romance novels haha.

If a character’s going to be on a cover, I prefer an illustrated one. I also love the new flat illustrations that seem to be all the rage right now. Good choice!

Well spotted! I am not sure whether I like this book cover trend much; sometimes it makes me hesitate when choosing a new unheard book — like, what if it is “too” MG or YA? But they are definitely very cute!

I hear that, but it seems like romance uses it a lot too.
