Friday Favorites – Characters I’d Like To Switch Lives With For A Week

I’ve really missed doing Friday Favorites, and since no one was currently hosting it, Cait @ Functionally Fictional decided to jump into the gap. Each week, she provides a prompt, and I get to talk about my favorite books that fit the topic. Feel free to join in – the more the merrier!

I have to be honest. My life is pretty boring. That’s part of the reason why I escape into exciting books so often. Most of the characters have lives that are much more interesting than my own. This week’s prompt is about characters that I’d like to switch lives with for a week. There’s so many to choose from, although I’d be kind of concerned what I’d be coming back to after a week away. Here’s some of the characters who have lives I’d like to live for a little while:

  1. Vicious by V.E. Schwab — Switching lives with a character that allows me to have special powers? Yes please! Although every single character in the story is morally gray, I’d probably pick either Sydney or Victor, because I like both of them the best.
  2. Kantika by Elizabeth Graver — I’d love to switch lives with Rebecca for a while, because it would connect me to a different side of Jewish life than I’ve seen, and let me see their own experiences firsthand. Plus, she’s got plenty of super cool experiences!
  3. When You Wish Upon a Lantern by Gloria Chao — Liya has some big worries, but she also has some super fun times in her life. Her parents run a lantern store and I’d love to attend a lantern ceremony!
  4. A Shadow Crown by Melissa Blair — Keera is badass, as an assassin but also someone who is super important to both the King and the building revolution. This seems like a week that definitely won’t get boring.
  5. The Secret, Book, and Scone Society by Ellery Adams — the main character, Nora, works as a bibliotherapist in the small town of Miracle Springs, known for its healing hot springs, and also solves mysteries with her friends in her spare time. Why wouldn’t I want to switch lives?
  6. The Justice of Kings by Richard Swan — Helena gets to do a lot of cool stuff over the course of this story, and I’d love to tag along with Sir Konrad and his crew for a bit (but not the super dangerous parts, naturally).
  7. Finlay Donovan is Killing It by Elle Cosimano — if I’m looking for an action-packed and unpredictable yet laugh-out-loud funny week, then I’d have to switch with Finlay Donovan.
  8. The Lost Legends by Cait Marie — Ada is obsessed with a book and gets to travel the seas with a sexy pirate and fun crew? I would love to live this life for a week, at least.
  9. You Made a Fool of Death with Your Beauty by Akwaeke Emezi — while her story was bumpy at first, Feyi got her happy ending, and I would love to spend a week living that life!
  10. Rivers of London/Midnight Riot by Ben Aaronovitch — Peter has such an awesome and exciting life, you never know what is going to happen next. It seems like it would be so much fun to swap lives with him for a little.

Which characters would you like to switch lives with?

    • Thanks Julie! The only way I’m switching lives with Feyre is if I can pick the time in her life when I’m switching, because there’s so much she goes through that I absolutely wouldn’t want to have to deal with! But yes to the Night Court part – imagine seeing Starfall???
