Friday Favorites – Mystery Books

I’ve really missed doing Friday Favorites, and since no one was currently hosting it, Cait @ Functionally Fictional decided to jump into the gap. Each week, she provides a prompt, and I get to talk about my favorite books that fit the topic. Feel free to join in – the more the merrier!

This week’s prompt is mystery books, and I can’t be more excited about it! I happen to love mystery books, and find myself reading more of them in fall and winter. Here are some of my favorites:

  1. The Unmaking of June Farrow by Adrienne Young. This book absolutely blew my mind in the best way. It was a little confusing at first, but everything is explained by the end.
  2. None Shall Sleep by Ellie Marney. My friend suggested this book to me, and it was incredible. It’s about two teenagers who are recruited for a special task in the FBI and it had me hooked.
  3. Murder at the Beacon Bakeshop by Darci Hannah. This starts a cozy mystery series that I absolutely adore, featuring a Michigan bakery in a lighthouse, an adorable Newfoundland, and a handsome but mysterious neighbor.
  4. Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn. This is such a dark and twisted story, and I loved every second of it. Shoutout to the TV adaptation as well, since that’s really good.
  5. The Secret, Book, and Scone Society by Ellery Adams. I fell in love with this cozy mystery series featuring four women who form a book club that develops into a group of supportive friends who share their secrets and solve murders.
  6. All the Dangerous Things by Stacy Willingham. This story about a kidnapped toddler kept surprising me with all the twists and turns, and put me onto a new favorite mystery author.
  7. The Searcher by Tana French. A dark story about a retired detective who moves to Ireland, but is quickly roped in by a local kid to help find their missing brother. Full of twists and turns, and some characters I couldn’t help but love.
  8. Ten Years Gone by Jonathan Dunsky. I was contacted by this author to review this book, and I was quickly hook and found myself reading the entire series in short order. This is a historical mystery series not to miss.
  9. Shutter by Ramona Emerson. This is a mystery about a Navajo woman who works as a crime scene photographer, but also has contact with the dead, who harass her and demand that she help to solve their own murders.
  10. Triptych by Karin Slaughter. This book kicks off the Will Trent series, which is my favorite Slaughter series. She writes dark, gory, and gruesome books, but I love the characters and how they work to solve these horrific crimes.

What are some of your favorite mystery books?
