Top Ten Tuesday used to be a weekly post hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, but was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl. “It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.” This is definitely something I can understand and want to participate in.
This week’s prompt is a relationship freebie, and we’ve talked about so many different kinds of relationships. One of my favorite relationship types is also one of my favorite tropes to see in books—found family. So for this week, I want to build my own found family out of characters that I really love and would want to create a family out of. Here’s ten characters I would love to form a family bond with:

- Languoreth from The Lost Queen by Signe Pike. I love this series, but especially her character, and I can’t help but think that someone who keeps the Old Ways and knows her way around magic would be great to have in the family. She’d make a perfect found sister or aunt.
- Diana Bishop from A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness. Another witch, with all of the abilities and allies that she has, all the excitement she gets into, and the wealth at her disposal has me feeling like I’d love to get invited to a birthday party or holiday gathering. Plus, she’s got kind of a motherly vibe, so she can be the found mother.
- Tiernan from The Vicious King by Gina L. Maxwell. Every family needs someone who will protect it, and Tiernan is not only a great bodyguard, he’s funny and sweet and caring, and would make a great found brother.
- Mari from The Bladed Faith by David Dalglish. I would love to have her as a found sister. She’s so sweet, caring, funny, and that’s not even counting her talent as a god whisperer.
- Cinnamon from That Time I Got Drunk and Saved a Demon by Kimberly Lemming. She just seems like so much fun that I’d love to have her as a found sister. Things would never be boring with her around.
- Nora from The Bad Ones by Melissa Albert. Everyone needs a ride or die, and Nora went all the way for Becca, so she’s one that would be great as a found sister.
- Benji Zeb from Benji Zeb is a Ravenous Werewolf by Deke Moulton. I loved Benji’s character so much that I want him to be my little brother or nephew or kid or something. He’s so smart and funny and I just want to give him the biggest hug.
- Ravyn from One Dark Window by Rachel Gillig. If I could pick a brother from book characters, this is one I’d want for my older brother. He’s smart, well-connected, loyal, and protective of his loved ones.
- Ned Stark from A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin. I think it’s obvious that Ned is top-notch dad material, so while I’m picking out a found family for myself, I figure there’s no one more perfect for the position than Ned.
- Rabbit from The Velveteen Rabbit by Margery Williams Bianco. I wouldn’t mind a much-loved stuffed rabbit to cuddle with, especially one that has the power to become real, and then he’d be the coolest pet bunny ever.
What about you? Which characters would you choose to populate your found family with?

This is so fun and creative. I wish I’d done something cool with characters this week. But I took an “easier” route and instead talked about authors I’d enjoy conversing with. Good characters is always an important part of any novel. 🙂

Thanks! I don’t usually manage to come up with the creative topics, so I’m excited to have done it this time! I think your topic sounds so much more difficult, but there are definitely at least a few authors I can name off the top of my head whose brains I’d love to pick.

Great selection ! I think I’d be going for families like the Bennets, the March family and the Weasleys!

I’ve never read Austen, but I think it would be fun to spend time with the Marches and the Weasleys!

I’m currently reading Benji Zeb is a Ravenous Warewolf, and as a mother, I just want to wrap him up and let him know that everything will be ok.

That’s such a fantastic book! How did you like it? He really is the kind of kid that I just want to hug him and tell him that things really do get better.

I love the found family trope too! I’m not much for fantasy, so I haven’t read any of these.
Happy TTT!

Found family is one of my very favorite tropes in a book. I think some of what my post today is about is sort of because I like the world some of the characters created for themselves, and the found family they have – especially Other Birds. 🙂 Great list!!

It’s one of my all-time favorite tropes to see as well, and I love how versatile it can be. Can’t wait to check out your post!

Thank you! I tried to pick really intriguing and fun characters, because that’s kind of what my found family is like.

It really is a tough question, but found family is the most amazing trope, IMHO.
