Top Ten Tuesday used to be a weekly post hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, but was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl. “It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.” This is definitely something I can understand and want to participate in.
Hello everyone! This week is a Halloween freebie and I’m really excited to see what everyone’s creative brains came up with. I’m going to focus my list on the spooky and even slightly scary books that I’m hoping to read this autumn. Here’s what I’ve got lined up:

- The Black Hunger by Nicholas Pullen. I’m only about 40 pages into this, and I’m already loving it.
- The Legacy of Arniston House by TL Huchu. This is the fourth book in the Edinburgh Nights series, and I really enjoyed the other books so far.
- The Witches of Salix Point by Noelle Vella. I am excited for this one—it looks really good, and I’m way overdue to read it.
- The Stone Witch of Florence by Anna Rasche. This combines two things I really enjoy reading about: witches and historical fiction. It’s set during the Plague, and I can’t wait to see how it goes.
- Hex and Hexability by Kate Johnson. This looks like such a fun story, and I’ve enjoyed her other books.
- Grave Importance by Vivian Shaw. This is the third book in the Dr. Greta Helsing series, and it’s such a fun series.
- The Enchanted Lies of Céleste Artois by Ryan Graudin. This has been on my shelf and I can’t wait to get started on it.
- The Familiar by Leigh Bardugo. This has been sitting on my shelf since it was preordered, and I haven’t read it yet. Luckily, I have a buddy read set up for this!
- Fairy Tale by Stephen King. This was gifted to me by a really good friend who loves books, and she told me it’s amazing. I still haven’t read it yet, though.
- Empire of Wild by Cherie Dimaline. I love her writing and am excited to see this adult retelling of Little Red Riding Hood, especially paired with Métis lore.
Have you read any of these yet? What did you think?

Autumn always feels like a great time to read the mystery (or spooky) books we have on our TBRs. I haven’t read any of these (and don’t love creepy!) but do see a lot of high praise of Leigh Bardugo’s novels. 🙂

I get that, I’m glad I can enjoy the creepy or spooky books for the season. It kind of ushers in my darker reading for the cold half of the year. I’ve loved all of Leigh Bardugo’s other books, so I am super excited for this one.

Even though I don’t usually read horror books, I do want to read Fairy Tales by Stephen King.

I totally get it! Apparently Fairy Tale is much more on the fantasy side, so it’s safe for a wimp like me.

I have Empire of the Wild on my TBR, but haven’t gotten around to it yet. Dimaline’s books all sound so interesting.

The Edinburgh Nights series has such a great tongue-in-cheek sense of humor, but everything is done so well. I hope you give it a shot!

Great list! I haven’t read any of these books before, but I’ll look into them. My approach to this week’s prompt was similar to yours, Halloween isn’t big where I’m from, so I thought I’d share my TBR for the next month too 🙂

I’m glad to introduce you to some books, in that case! My family never made a big thing about Halloween, but I like the whole season change and the need for cozy clothes, maybe that’s why I find myself reading darker stories as the days get shorter.

My creative brain ignored the Halloween part. I just can’t. Although, I do think if I were into this type of book, you’ve picked out some with some really great covers. I do think that The Stone Witch of Florence sounds enjoyable for the exact reasons you mentioned.

Thank you! I cannot wait to start that one, I have always been fascinated by stories set during the Plague, or even nonfiction about it. Morbid? Yes. Interesting as heck? Also yes.

Ooo so many of these look good!! The Stone Witch of Florence for one, and Empire of Wild as well. Empire of Wild has been on my list for a bit. I need to actually read it one of these days!

I know! My biggest problem now is picking which one to start with first! Hopefully I’ll get to see reviews on your page of these.

I’m always flattered when my list influences someone to read a book. I’ve been adding to the TBR with most of the posts I’ve visited.

Spooky and scary are definitely not my genres of choice, so I don’t know any of these books on your list. I do hope you get to enjoy them all this Fall season!
