Sunday Bookish Discussion — Posting Schedules

I’ve returned home from my vacation, and feel like I’m just about settled back into my normal daily routine. Despite getting off-track and playing catch-up, I wanted to create this post and hear from all of you. I love the way that we’ve been really creating a space to have discussions, and especially how I regularly find new commonalities between so many of us.

This week’s topic is posting schedules. As bloggers, we all develop a system that works for us personally. I’m always curious about what goes on behind the scenes of other blogs, and can’t wait to hear about what works for each of you.

When I first started blogging, I didn’t really schedule posts—it was enough for me to learn the ropes, and publish a post whenever I finished writing it. Once I got more involved in the community, I started posting more consistently, and also participating in weekly linked posts. Now that I’ve got a few years of blogging under my belt, my system has changed drastically. I schedule 3 bookish posts a week—Top Ten Tuesday, First Lines Friday, and Sunday Bookish Discussion, but other than that, I typically use the other 4 days to post my book reviews.

In the never-ending quest to make my life simpler, I’ve adopted scheduling posts. Although I always try to reach that one week goal, I haven’t quite reached it yet. Instead, I can usually get to about 5 days and then I struggle to maintain consistency. Here’s to being more organized in 2025!

Do you schedule your blog posts? How far in advance do you schedule?

  1. I like to spend Sunday afternoons scheduling posts for the following week but sometimes things pop up and I don’t get to it. Until the festive season hit, I was on a roll getting posts done but today is Sunday and all I want to do is have a nap.

  2. I post Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday. I only post more if I have something like a book tour that needs to be posted on a different day. I don’t intend to ever change that. My thought is that if I should ever be in a writing mood and have things I want to write, I can write the post and save it for the future when I’m not in a writing mood. That way, if I go on vacation, have something unexpected happen, etc. I have content available to schedule and post and no one needs to know that I’m not really there.

  3. I’ve been scheduling kinda randomly recently – Top Ten Tuesday is my only constant.
I also schedule drafts as they are these days for up to a few weeks in advance so they’re easier to access when I log back in and want to edit. This also serves as a mental deadline for me to finish certain posts.

  4. Yes, I schedule posts in advance. I like to be about a month in advance, give or take. But that’s not always how things pan out. It might be more or less.
