Top Ten Tuesday

TTT – Nice To ‘Meet’ You, Author

Top Ten Tuesday used to be a weekly post hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, but was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl. “It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.” This is definitely something I can understand and want to participate in.

Wow, this week’s prompt is a really great one, and it’s all about my top ten new-to-me authors I discovered in 2024. While I love reading books by the authors I love, I’ve also encountered some really great authors that I hadn’t read anything by. So I am frequently intrigued by a debut author, or even an author that everyone else seems to love but I haven’t read anything by yet. Here are my top ten new-to-me authors I discovered in 2024:

  1. Vivian Shaw. She popped onto my TBR with a novella that made me curious to read the series from the beginning in preparation for reading her newest book in the Dr. Greta Helsing world in 2025.
  2. Anna Rasche. The Stone Witch of Florence really caught my attention, and I love how her personal knowledge of gemstones was woven throughout the novel to make it a fascinating historical read.
  3. Jessie Garcia. I was unaware of this author until I read The Business Trip, and I’m so glad that I got the chance to read an advanced copy of it, because it had so many twists and turns to make it an exciting story.
  4. Beth Kander. How could I not find it incredibly humorous that she turned the fearsome Jewish creature of folklore, the golem, into a love interest. She won my heart right then and there. Her snarky sense of humor ensures a great read, too.
  5. Maiga Doocy. She landed on my radar with her quirky, cozy fantasy with a dash of queer rom-com. If you’re a fan of cozy fantasy but haven’t read Sorcery and Small Magics, you might want to jump on that.
  6. Ryan Graudin. As for her ability to write a fantastically whimsical historical fantasy that takes place in 1920s Paris, and kept me hanging on every word.
  7. Nicholas Pullen. In a complete genre change, his unique brand of gothic historical horror/fantasy pulled me in without tipping me over the edge into nightmares.
  8. P.H. Low. They earned a spot on this list with These Deathless Shores, a fabulous dark take on Peter Pan and the Lost Boys. It was one of those books that I couldn’t tear myself away from, and simultaneously, didn’t want to rush through and miss even a tiny bit.
  9. A.R. Vishny. With Night Owls, Vishny brings a creature from Jewish folklore through time and into the present day. I fell in love with the characters and the story, and loved reading an unapologetically Jewish story. Bonus points for her use of a different folklore creature other than a golem.
  10. Amy Leow. In this Nepali-inspired epic fantasy, she ensured the best possible success of her debut novel, The Scarlet Throne. The characters are various shades along the spectrum of morally gray, but it felt like the author is building up to something even more mind-blowing in the next book of the series.

Have you read any of these books? What did you think?

    • Thank you! I always get so thrilled about finding a new favorite author, and then proceed to push all my friends to read it. And it’s so cool to see everyone else’s posts and be introduced to new books and authors!

  2. I haven’t read any of these authors. I am busy right now updating my list of reviewed books and it is painfully obvious to me that I don’t often read the same author over and over. There are just a few authors I make sure to read everything they publish based on my previous reading experiences.

  3. I love the look of Grave Importance! I’ve just finished reading The Undying of Obedience Wellrest which is about gravediggers and reanimating the dead so this fits my current mood nicely!
