Top Ten Tuesday

TTT – 2024 Releases I Got But Surprise! Haven’t Read

Top Ten Tuesday used to be a weekly post hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, but was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl. “It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.” This is definitely something I can understand and want to participate in.

Happy Tuesday y’all! I hope February is treating you well so far. We’ve gotten a little light snow over the weekend, and I had a great time celebrating my birthday with family. Which is also why I’m so late in responding to comments and blog hopping.

This week’s prompt is 2024 releases I was excited to read but still haven’t gotten to. It kind of feels like this prompt is personally calling me out, since I apparently enjoy buying books, putting them on my shelf, and not reading them while they judge me and collect dust. I’m positive that there are more than ten, but here’s my list of 2024 releases I bought because I got excited to read them and promptly ignored them once I owned them. Here goes:

  1. House of Flame and Shadow by Sarah J. Maas. I love this series, and there’s such a huge, jaw dropping cliffhanger at the end of the previous book, but they’re massive and until my ARCs are under control, I couldn’t commit to rereading the first two books before this one just yet.
  2. Magical Meet Cute by Jean Meltzer. I actually preordered a signed copy, but have I read this one yet? Nooooooo.
  3. The Familiar by Leigh Bardugo. I preordered this the very day that I first heard about it, and it’s just sitting there watching me read ARCs.
  4. North is the Night by Emily Rath. My brother and sister-in-law got me this for my birthday, and I hadn’t even heard of it, but they got me the prettiest copy with sprayed edges. Bonus points for it being a book that sounds like I’m going to enjoy.
  5. Wisteria by Adalyn Grace. I loved the first two books in this trilogy, and actually bought it over the summer. Guess what it’s doing? Haha!
  6. The Prisoner’s Throne by Holly Black. I got this one on sale at Savers, and didn’t realize it was book 2 in a series that I haven’t started reading yet. But since I really love Black’s writing, I’m actually shocked that I still haven’t read the first book.
  7. The Moonflowers by Abigail Rose-Marie. I got this on one of Amazon’s kindle sales, and it does sound really interesting. But it is so easy to forget about the books hiding on our kindles, right?
  8. Cursed by Darkness by C.M. Haines. Cait and I connected on Twitter as she was getting ready to launch her first book. In that time, we’ve become true friends, and I’m literally the worst friend ever for not having read this one yet. Sorry, Cait!
  9. The Broken Places by Mia Sheridan. I was so excited to get my hands on this one, but just haven’t read it for no apparent reason.
  10. An Age of Winters by Gemma Liviero. Books about the witch trials are almost always intriguing to me, and I got this one for free on a sale. Now to actually read it.

Have you read any of these?

  1. LOL, my books judge me and collect dust, too! I own way too many that I was genuinely excited for and have never read. Perhaps that can be a (no pressure) goal of 2025 – read some of the books sitting on my shelf! 🙂 Hope you had an amazing birthday! Sending you all the cheerful belated birthday wishes – and hope you enjoy these all!

    • Thank you for the birthday wishes! I had a wonderful birthday with friends and family. I even got A BOOK as a gift! My no-pressure intentions for every year is to read more of the books I own. Clearly I’m not too successful!

  2. I enjoyed House of Flame and Shadow for what it was, but it was over long and complicated. I’m hoping her next ACOTAR book is better. I have The Familiar on my list, as well. I’ll get to it eventually, and I’m sure I’ll like it bc I’ve enjoyed almost all Bardugo’s books. I hope you like all of these once you get around to reading them!

    • Thank you! I’m sorry to hear that you didn’t fall head over heels for House of Flame and Shadow, fingers crossed that I like it once I can find the time to recommit to rereading the earlier books. Luckily, I’m starting a buddy read of The Familiar today!

  3. I have so many books that I absolutely *needed* to buy but then haven’t got around to reading! I have also got a book that I pre-ordered and then didn’t end up reading… Magical Meet Cute sounds good 🙂

    • I wish I knew why it was so hard to actually read the books that I just had to have … only for them to sit on my shelves. Hopefully Magical Meet Cute will get read for sure this year.
