Sunday Bookish Discussion — Book Recs From Friends

After the heavy topic I sprang on you all last week, I figured I’d go a little more light-hearted in the discussion topic for this week. One of my besties recommended this as a topic, because we are constantly sharing book recs and feedback in our group chat. This week, I want to give us all space to talk about book recs from friends

I’m lucky enough to belong to a group chat with two of my closest friends, where we talk about the books that we have just read or just picked up, and trade recommendations back and forth. At this point, all of my friends are bookish anyway, and we also get to talk about bookish drama, and what the best book we’ve read recently are.

At any given time, my friends are capable of producing recs in a wide range of genres—fantasy, romance, mystery, historical fiction, and nonfiction, to name the most common ones. I love that we all push each other to read more and discuss the books that we’ve read, almost like an informal book club without the rules.

Another thing I can share gratitude about is the way all of my bookish friends know me well enough to know what I’ll like and what I won’t before I even pick up the book. This way, I’m pretty much guaranteed to have a great reading experience, plus I already know I’ll be able to send them my random reactions.

Do you and your friends trade book recs?

  1. I have a group of friends I met through Instagram and we chat about books. It’s become a pretty close group (or as close as you can be not having met in person). I like that we also stretch each other outside of our comfort zones. I wouldn’t be reading a fantasy right now if it weren’t for them.

    • Yes! My friends have really varied reading tastes, so there are so many great recs that they’ve given me that challenged me and got me out of my comfort zone. One of my close friends loves romance, and her recs are so good that I enjoy reading them, even if it isn’t something I’d have read on my own. What fantasy are you reading now? Just out of curiosity!
