Top Ten Tuesday used to be a weekly post hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, but was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl. “It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.” This is definitely something I can understand and want to participate in.
I don’t know how it is where you live, but in New York it feels like spring is almost here. We’ve been getting a lot of rain (April showers!) and the trees and bushes and flowers are all starting to show signs of life. I’m already in a spring mood, and it works perfectly for this week’s prompt: books with springy covers. The first thing that comes to mind when I think of spring is flowers, so this week I’m going to tell you about some of my favorite books featuring flowers on the cover.

- The Lost Prince by Cait Marie. I am obsessed with how beautiful this cover is, and had to place it facing out on my shelves so I can admire it.
- Belladonna by Adalyn Grace. All of the covers in this series are flower-themed and gorgeous, but this was the cover so pretty that I had to buy the book.
- Petals on the Wind by V.C. Andrews. I’m pretty sure this series scarred an entire generation and highlighted the need for YA books. But there was something about her books that had everyone I know reading them.
- That Time I Got Drunk and Saved a Demon by Kimberly Lemming. I really do try to sneak this series in every chance I get, but it does have flowers on the cover!
- The Pomegranate Gate by Ariel Kaplan. This book was so good, but the gorgeous cover landed it on this list.
- An Enchanting Case of Spirits by Melissa Holtz. This adorable cozy mystery series featuring paranormal elements has such a spring-like cover with the brightly colored flowers.
- Emily Wilde’s Encyclopaedia of Faeries by Heather Fawcett. I love the pretty covers on this series, but the flowers are part of what makes them so beautiful.
- Lord of the Flies by William Golding. I vividly remember reading this in tenth grade and being fascinated, but the cover is so striking.
- The Enchanted Lies of Céleste Artois by Ryan Graudin. This was a book that sucked me in, and the cover with its flowering vines is understated yet pretty.
- The Sins on Their Bones by Laura R. Samotin. This is another amazing cover, with a mixture of skulls and flowers. It perfectly matches the story, too.
What are some of your favorite books with flowers on the cover?

I always think of flowers as “cheerfulness” or happy things in nature, so anytime I see them used in fantasy or “darker” read designs makes me curious! I think its fun when an element like this blends with its opposing genre or topic. 🙂

Yes! I love the way fantasy and historical fiction novels are using more flowers while still leaning into a darker theme. And you’re right – it is cool when a simple topic like flowers can be turned into a cover for any genre.

You found really flowerish covers. The Lord of the Flies is such an unflowery novel so I wonder at the cover.

Thank you! I wanted to go all out with the flowers, and I have a pretty good number of these on my shelves. While the novel itself is way darker than I had expected, I really liked that it still featured green plants, and let me include more types of books. There’s a book called Lord of the Fly Fest by Goldy Moldavsky, and it’s a gender-swapped version, but the cover has a pretty fierce looking girl in the same position, and I can’t wait to read it.

I picked up a copy of that Ryan Graudin book. I can’t wait to read it.

I hope you love it! The cover totally sucked me in, but then the story was so fantastic and whimsical. Have fun reading it!

Emily Wilde covers are coming up a lot this week, unsurprisingly! 🙂

That doesn’t surprise me at all, especially since the US versions are a little darker yet still flowery and pretty. I am partial to the UK version of the first Emily Wilde book cover, but unless I’m going to England, I’ll just have to settle for the kindle versions I have. But it’s wonderful seeing this book get so much recognition.

You’re right, that first book cover is stunning. I can’t imagine how beautiful it is in person.

Thank you! The author is a friend of mine that I made on social media when she was promoting her very first book, and now she has so many published books. She even made a kickstarter for hardcover copies, and I had to participate. I highly recommend the whole series.

I love your list. I struggled with this week’s theme as nearly everything I read is dark. But your list is dark AND flowery! Here’s mine: https://damppebbles.com/2025/04/08/toptentuesday-8th-april-2025/

Thank you! I also read a lot of dark stuff, while the flowery pretty covers all seem to go towards romance novels. That’s a good title for my personal aesthetic, actually. Dark and flowery! Thanks for that.

We’re getting a lot of rain in Toronto, too, but no flowers yet from what I’ve seen!

This week all the green things really decided to get going, and we have bushes growing new buds and shoots, and our tulips have started to come up. Rain isn’t bad, but too much of it and I start to feel waterlogged.

I am only now realizing how much I love paranormal cozies. There’s a second book coming out, which I was approved for not knowing it was a series. I’m lucky that the first book turned out to be as fun of a read as it was, so I’m now looking forward to the next one.

Nice choices, Leah. I also went with flowers on the covers.

Thank you! Great minds think alike, I guess. Flowers have always been how we know when spring finally arrives and winter is gone. As a kid I remember waiting for the tulips to sprout and open, which took about 75 years, and I got in trouble for squeezing them to make the flowers open up faster.

I love these covers! So pretty. I have the UK version of Emily Wilde on my list 😂 I want to read That Time I Got Drunk And Saved A Demon 😂
The weather here has been hot and sunny. Not a cloud in the sky. Awful for a school run pushing the pushchair up a slight hill🤣
Have a great week!

Thank you! The UK version of Emily Wilde is so pretty, I’m jealous. I might have to take a trip across the pond to pick up the series with British covers. And I think you’d get such a kick out of That Time I Got Drunk and … series, but it’s pretty steamy, so heads up.
