Top Ten Tuesday

TTT – Book Quote Freebie

Top Ten Tuesday used to be a weekly post hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, but was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl. “It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.” This is definitely something I can understand and want to participate in.

This week’s prompt is a book quote freebie, but I have to admit that I’m literally the worst when it comes to recalling book quotes. So instead, I’m going to highlight some quotes that touch on the importance and joy of reading:

  1. “A room without books is like a body without a soul.” — Cicero
  2. “That’s the thing about books. They let you travel without moving your feet.” — Jhumpa Lahiri”
  3. “A book is a version of the world. If you do not like it, ignore it; or offer your own version in return.” — Salman Rushdie
  4. “A book is a dream you hold in your hands.” — Neil Gaiman
  5. “A great books should leave you with many experiences, and slightly exhausted at the end. You live several lives while reading.” — William Styron
  6. “Books are a uniquely portable magic.” — Stephen King
  7. “You can never get a cup of tea large enough or a book long enough to suit me.” — C.S. Lewis
  8. “If you would tell me the heart of a man, tell me not what he reads, but what he rereads.” — Francois Mauriac
  9. “You know you’ve read a good book when you turn the last page and feel a little as if you have lost a friend.” — Paul Sweeney
  10. “Reading makes immigrants of us all. It takes us away from home, but more important, it finds homes for us everywhere.” — Jean Rhys

  1. I’m with you, I rarely pay attention to quotes in books (although I do this more since I started blogging). Anyway, I went the same way that you did and posted quotes about books and reading

  2. I love all of these so much. 8 is my favorite, though. I love to reread. I don’t reread a lot because there are so many new, exciting books out there. I do read usually a handful of books each year, though, because I have to revisit my favorites.
