Top Ten Tuesday

TTT – Favorite Audiobook Narrators

Top Ten Tuesday used to be a weekly post hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, but was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl. “It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.” This is definitely something I can understand and want to participate in.

I’ve only discovered a love for audiobooks in the last few years. I listen to them while driving, when cooking, while folding laundry (aka the chore from hell), and when doing other mindless activities that don’t engage my brain. In this time, I’ve discovered that I have so many audiobook narrators that I love, and here’s some of them:

  1. Julia Whelan — if you’ve ever listened to a Julia Whelan audiobook, I don’t even have to explain anything about this.
  2. Bahni Turpin — she’s incredible, and I was so impressed when she rapped in On the Come Up.
  3. Lauren Fortgang — she’s got a great voice for narration, and I love listening to her narrate.
  4. Tom Hanks — he did a fantastic job on The Dutch House and I could listen to him narrate forever.
  5. Simon Vance — I’m currently listening to the audiobooks of Anne Rice’s The Vampire Chronicles and his narration is consistently impressive.
  6. Soneela Nankani — I love starting an audiobook and discovering that she’s the narrator! She does great work in rom-coms.
  7. Aiden Snow — he has one of the sexiest voices I’ve ever heard, and it made me finish a book I wanted to DNF at 20% just so I could keep listening to his voice.
  8. Natalie Naudus — she’s narrated a lot of books, and I always enjoy her fantastic narration.
  9. Marisol Ramirez — I keep finding books narrated by her and they’re amazing. She does a fantastic job narrating in both English and Spanish, and I love how she works with stories.
  10. Gemma Whelan — if you haven’t read the Nevermoor series, I highly suggest doing so on audiobook strictly for the narration. Whelan creates so many voices throughout her narration that it brings me back to my childhood when my mom would do different voices while reading me books.

Who are some of your favorite audiobook narrators? I’m positive that I’ve missed plenty.

  1. We completely agree on Julia Whelan and Lauren Fortgang. It is a great list. I like Turpin as well. I just had a hard time whittling my list down!

  2. Whelan is on my list today, too, and so was Turpin until I decided to trade her out for another favorite. Tom Hanks would be a great narrator. I love him!

I listen to audiobooks while doing the same chores you do EXCEPT cooking. I’ve discovered that I can’t listen and follow a recipe at the same time. It always leads me to disaster. LOL.

    Happy TTT!

    • Fortunately, I can listen to audiobooks while reading off a recipe, but a lot of the time I cook without a recipe. Yeah, I’m one of *those* people. But I highly recommend The Dutch House on audiobook with Tom Hanks narrating!

  3. It’s always cool to discover big actors narrate books! Like I didn’t know Tom Hanks had!! But then I don’t listen to audio books as a rule. I wish I liked the concept more or wanted to invest in them because I do try to go on walks and that would be a great time to get in some “reading.” 🙂

    • It took me a long time to get into audiobooks. It helps me a lot when I’m working on mindless or boring or unenjoyable tasks like folding laundry. But they aren’t for everyone, and I have to have the physical or ebook for some books.
