I’ve really missed doing Friday Favorites, and since no one was currently hosting it, Cait @ Functionally Fictional decided to jump into the gap. Each week, she provides a prompt, and I get to talk about my favorite books that fit the topic. Feel free to join in – the more the merrier!
There must be something about people like me that makes us seek out books that destroy us in the best ways. I love it when a book twists me up and then leaves me feeling kind of wonky for the next few days while I try to put myself back together. So here are some of my favorite books that destroyed me in the best way:

- Jade Legacy by Fonda Lee. If I didn’t read this as a buddy read and have someone to talk about this with, I’d have been completely lost.
- The Bone Shard War by Andrea Stewart. That ending completely wrecked me.
- Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo. I was definitely not expecting to get as affected by this book as I was, but it completely broke me.
- A Court of Silver Flame by Sarah J. Maas. This book had me bawling while I read it, despite the fact that I rarely get that invested in characters like that.
- The Burning God by R.F. Kuang. This last book tore my heart to teeny tiny little pieces.
- The Clan of the Cave Bear by Jean M. Auel. Ever since I was a teenager, Ayla’s plight and plucky courage has always destroyed me.
- This Is How It Always Is by Laurie Frenkel. The story that this book tells is so powerful and riveting that I was glued to this book until I finished and still think about it.
I’m really struggling to think of more, but feel free to share some books that destroyed you in the best way!

Thank you! HoEaB had me sobbing too – and in so many parts! The Song of Achilles got me too, I can’t lie.

Yes to so many of these! I’m so glad we read Jade Legacy together because that book most definitely broke me, and the endings to The Poppy War Trilogy and The Bone Shard trilogy were both so emotional.. great picks, Leah 😀

You have kept me from descending into the pit of despair on so many of our buddy reads! And thank goodness I read the entire Bone Shard trilogy as a buddy read! Thanks Becky.
