I’ve really missed doing Friday Favorites, and since no one was currently hosting it, Cait @ Functionally Fictional decided to jump into the gap. Each week, she provides a prompt, and I get to talk about my favorite books that fit the topic. Feel free to join in – the more the merrier!
This week I get to talk about my favorite books from the first half of 2023, and get ready because I read some killer books this year! There were a lot of really great books that I’ve read so far in 2023, but I’m going to try to limit myself to the best of the best. All of these except one were new to me in 2023, and the one that wasn’t was new to me in 2022. Here goes nothing:

- The Age of Vice by Deepti Kapoor
- Weyward by Emilia Hart
- A Death in Jerusalem by Jonathan Dunsky
- VenCo by Cherie Dimaline
- The Golem and The Jinni by Helene Wecker
- The Bone Shard War by Andrea Stewart
- The Tyranny of Faith by Richard Swan
- Kantika by Elizabeth Graver
- The Will of the Many by James Islington
- Chain-Gang All-Stars by Nana Kwame Adjei-Brenyah
What are your favorite reads of 2023? Have you read any of these? What did you think?

Slow progress is still progress – and you still have half a year to turn it around!

I think The Bone Shard War is one of my favorite all-time reads. That was such an amazing conclusion to the trilogy. Great picks, Leah!

Thank you! That entire series was incredible, but if I had to pick a single one of the three, you know the last one had to be it. There was no way that I could leave that one off this list!
