Top Ten Tuesday

TTT – Halloween Freebie

Top Ten Tuesday used to be a weekly post hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, but was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl. “It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.” This is definitely something I can understand and want to participate in.

Hello everyone! This week is a Halloween freebie and I’m really excited to see what everyone’s creative brains came up with. I’m going to focus my list on the spooky and even slightly scary books that I’m hoping to read this autumn. Here’s what I’ve got lined up:

  1. The Black Hunger by Nicholas Pullen. I’m only about 40 pages into this, and I’m already loving it.
  2. The Legacy of Arniston House by TL Huchu. This is the fourth book in the Edinburgh Nights series, and I really enjoyed the other books so far.
  3. The Witches of Salix Point by Noelle Vella. I am excited for this one—it looks really good, and I’m way overdue to read it.
  4. The Stone Witch of Florence by Anna Rasche. This combines two things I really enjoy reading about: witches and historical fiction. It’s set during the Plague, and I can’t wait to see how it goes.
  5. Hex and Hexability by Kate Johnson. This looks like such a fun story, and I’ve enjoyed her other books.
  6. Grave Importance by Vivian Shaw. This is the third book in the Dr. Greta Helsing series, and it’s such a fun series.
  7. The Enchanted Lies of Céleste Artois by Ryan Graudin. This has been on my shelf and I can’t wait to get started on it.
  8. The Familiar by Leigh Bardugo. This has been sitting on my shelf since it was preordered, and I haven’t read it yet. Luckily, I have a buddy read set up for this!
  9. Fairy Tale by Stephen King. This was gifted to me by a really good friend who loves books, and she told me it’s amazing. I still haven’t read it yet, though.
  10. Empire of Wild by Cherie Dimaline. I love her writing and am excited to see this adult retelling of Little Red Riding Hood, especially paired with Métis lore.

Have you read any of these yet? What did you think?

  1. Autumn always feels like a great time to read the mystery (or spooky) books we have on our TBRs. I haven’t read any of these (and don’t love creepy!) but do see a lot of high praise of Leigh Bardugo’s novels. 🙂

    • I get that, I’m glad I can enjoy the creepy or spooky books for the season. It kind of ushers in my darker reading for the cold half of the year. I’ve loved all of Leigh Bardugo’s other books, so I am super excited for this one.

    • I’m glad to introduce you to some books, in that case! My family never made a big thing about Halloween, but I like the whole season change and the need for cozy clothes, maybe that’s why I find myself reading darker stories as the days get shorter.

  2. My creative brain ignored the Halloween part. I just can’t. Although, I do think if I were into this type of book, you’ve picked out some with some really great covers. I do think that The Stone Witch of Florence sounds enjoyable for the exact reasons you mentioned.
