State of the ARC

State Of The ARC #54

State of the ARC is a monthly meme temporarily hosted by Sarah at All The Book Blog Names Are Taken meant to motivate you to finish up your long overdue ARCs (Advanced or Early Reader Copies). This is its original intention, while some bloggers have tweaked it a bit for their own purposes, such as just keeping ARCs in order by due dates. Or you can just be a hot mess like me who sometimes misses publishing dates (or ignores them altogether) and needs a way to stay organized on what has been read, reviewed, or is still begging for attention. Thank you to Evelina @ Avalinah’s Books for coming up with this super helpful monthly meme.

I finished July with 19 ARCs left to be read.

Happy Saturday! I am so ready for autumn and everything that comes along with it: the scent of woodsmoke in the air (from fireplaces, not wildfires), the leaves changing color, chilly weather, switching from capris and sandals to boots and sweaters, pumpkin spice everything, and spooky season reads.

I don’t do well with heat, for the most part, but I made it through the summer and did some fun stuff. This weekend I got to attend a Korean Festival with some friends, and we had a great time. I saw my friend’s band play twice, and spent a lot of time chatting with my friends who live around the country. While I didn’t do any traveling myself, I had two friends visit Japan separately, so I got to vicariously see the sights.

Things are going a little more smoothly at home now that Mom and I are getting used to our routine. Some days are easier than others, but we have been really working better together. Both she and I have a lot of appointments, and I am the chauffeur now that she isn’t supposed to drive. Unfortunately, my energy levels are still really low, and doing too much drains me to the point where I just crash and sleep hard enough that it’s tough to wake me up. Mom got worried and was afraid that I was using drugs, so I asked the PCP to order a drug test with the other bloodwork I needed to get, and I was able to show Mom that it’s really just my autoimmune fatigue. It wasn’t a big deal to ask for, and since I already knew that it was going to come up with amphetamines from my ADHD medication and marijuana, which I use medically and have openly discussed with all of my doctors.

As far as my NG ARCs for August, I got a lot done. I caught up on almost all of my published ARCs, except for one from July and one from August that I’m working my way through. I got approved for quite a few books in August, but I’m really proud of the fact that I was able to review the same number of books, so my total number of NG ARCs stayed the same, and so did my ratio, at 96%.

September is going to be a big month, with 5 ARCs being published and me trying to still get those two late ones out of the way. As always, I’m hoping that *this* will be the month where I finally get caught up and don’t request more books until I get through the ones I have already been approved for. I’m also really excited about a bunch of these books and am looking forward to getting started on my September reading.

Here’s how this month went for my NG ARCs:
