Top Ten Tuesday used to be a weekly post hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, but was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl. “It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.” This is definitely something I can understand and want to participate in.
Hello! It’s been a whirlwind around here with the Jewish holidays and my sister coming from out of town to visit, but things calmed down enough that I think I can fit this feature back into my schedule. This week’s prompt is satisfying book series, and it is no secret that I love a good series. With no further ado, here are ten book series that I found incredibly satisfying:

- The Green Bone Saga by Fonda Lee. I was captivated from start to finish by this fascinating story that’s kind of like The Godfather but with martial arts and magic.
- Rooks and Ruin by Melissa Caruso. A wonderful fantasy world, and I enjoyed the queer-normalized world and the snarky sarcasm of the main character.
- Rook & Rose by M.A. Carrick. You know a series is satisfying when you madly buddy read all three books in a few weeks, and all you can do at the end is just sigh and hold the book dreamily to your chest … or not, that might be just me.
- The Vagrant Gods by David Dalglish. The entire series had me rapt, and I really connected with multiple characters, yet the author somehow managed to tie all of the plot threads up without making me want to throw a book across the room.
- Will Trent series by Karin Slaughter. I’m not quite sure if this series is over, but I’ll be really sad if it is. There is very little that I don’t like about this series or her writing.
- The Folk of the Air by Holly Black. My introduction to mean and scary faeries came through this series, and it’s always going to hold a special place in my heart.
- Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas. I remember reading this series, and as I got closer to the end, my mind was blown by how this series was plotted and all the loose threads started twining together in ways I never expected.
- The Combat Codes Saga by Alexander Darwin. Despite my lack of exposure to sports, there was something about this series that grabbed hold and wouldn’t let go, and I didn’t want it to until the end.
- The Drowning Empire by Andrea Stewart. Here is another series that I binge read with a buddy reader, and absolutely devoured because we both loved it so much. The character development and plot line across the series was outstanding.
- Sworn Soldier by T. Kingfisher. The only kind of horror author I can consistently read, this series is growing on me with each new book (pun intended, obviously!).
What do you think of these? Share some of your favorite series in the comments!

Based on cover art alone, some of these do indeed look quite capable of knocking ones socks off. 🙂 I had Sarah’s for a while, but never tried to read them. Glad they fit this category though. Hope you had a great time with your sister!

We had our sisterly squabbles, but it was a good visit overall. There are so many gorgeous covers out there – but finding a knock-your-socks-off book series with gorgeous covers isn’t as easy.

Egads, I read none of these. I am so glad you found them, though. I have very happy places in my heart for good series.

We usually have a little bit of overlap, but I only put finished series on the list this week. Otherwise, I know we share a love of cozies, so I’m looking forward to seeing your list.

Shockingly, I have read only one of these, (being the Cruel Prince series.) I shall have to check out some of the others! I do love me a good series.

Ooooh, I hope I inspired you to read at least one of the other ones. I’m such a sucker for a mind-blowing series.

It is great when you find a series that you enjoy, especially if you can read several of the books one after another.

So true – there’s nothing better than hunkering down with multiple books and binge reading them under a cozy blanket with my dogs, especially if the weather is bad.

While I’ve heard of several of these series, I haven’t read any of them. I’m not a huge fantasy reader, though I am slowly starting to read more.

I usually try to include multiple genres so that everyone has something to possibly pique their interest, but that kind of went out of the window this week. It’s the kind of week where we are sliding into the weekend by the skin of our teeth, but we finally made it to the weekend!
I’m happy to hear that you’re starting to pick up a little more fantasy – it took a bunch of really great reads for it to become and stay my most-read genre.

I love ToG and the Cruel Prince!

I literally remember sitting there while reading one of the last books in ToG, and there was a point where I just sat there with my mouth open, appreciating the plotting that went into that series.

Thank you! The holidays were really great, and I even hoofed it to NYC to visit family visiting America for the first time. Turns out we saw the Latin American Carnival front and center as the floats went by. It was so much fun!

I don’t read a lot of fantasy, so the only one I’ve read is Will Trent.

I try to include at least a book or two from other genres in my lists whenever possible. The Will Trent series is a huge favorite of mine.

I try to do the same, Leah. It gives something for everyone to check out.

Although I wanted to add Throne of Glass, I didn’t want to add SJM as that would have been too easy. I love The Green Bone Saga as well!

I always reassure myself that even if I leave SJM off a list, someone is guaranteed to have her on theirs anyway. But that series is what really put me in awe of her plotting and writing talent. The Green Bone Saga is one of my favorites. This week I challenged myself to only include completed series, since I read so many that aren’t finished yet.

I liked The Cruel Prince a lot, and I love T. Kingfisher! The Drowning Empire is one I’m interested in. Thanks for the recommendations!

We have a lot of overlapping tastes in books, so I think you’d love The Drowning Empire. Stewart is a brilliant writer and the story is beautifully multilayered.

This is a fantastic round-up! The theme of satisfying series is such a great one, and I’m really intrigued by your description of The Green Bone Saga—The Godfather with martial arts and magic sounds absolutely captivating.

Thank you so much! This really is a great topic, and seeing everyone’s lists is giving me some inspo for my own TBR. That’s how someone described The Green Bone Saga to me, and I couldn’t resist. It was so much better than I ever imagined it could be.

Haven’t read any of those
Some favorite series:
1. Harry Potter
2. Chronicles of Narnia
3. Lord of the Rings
4. Land of Stories
5. Sister’s Grimm
6. Avalon: Web of Magic (longest series I read)
7. A Tale of Magic
8. Percy Jackson and the Olympians
9. Heroes of Olympus
10. Shades of Magic
11. Nevermoor
Man——if wasn’t for Harry Potter and Narnia wouldn’t have a fantasy fan and if wasn’t for Percy Jackson, wouldn’t have a mythology fan

I’ve read three from your list, and I loved them. Especially Nevermoor, which we have in common. It’s really interesting to think about how deeply we are influenced by books and how they broaden our world so much, isn’t it?
LikeLike
Yep- not easy waiting for the other Nevermoor books to debut, but each time they do have to wait even longer to buy them (first 3 were paperback meaning all need to be)
LikeLiked by 1 person
They’re less expensive, but I agree – the waiting is the tough part. Maybe check out a library copy until the paperback comes out? I know I will want to start reading it immediately when a new Nevermoor book comes out.

Besides being less expensive, also easier to turn the page. 4 books out (was going to ask for Silverborn for Christmas this year, but due to when it debuted, can’t anymore)

Yes! I have been listening to the audiobooks for this series all along, and the narrator is so great! She does all different voices and accents and sounds, and gives some characters silly voices and it is just a fun read all around.

My only problem with audiobooks is that I’m not an auditory learner so how can earth can I understand them

I understand that – they aren’t a good format for some readers. Nothing wrong with it.

I loved a few of these and the others I haven’t read! I still haven’t picked up a single Kingfisher book and I really need to!!
Jade City is one of my favorite series. I’m currently re-reading it and loving it just as much as the first time!

Jade City feels like the kind of series where I’ll always pick up on something new whenever I reread it. And Leslie!! You haven’t read any Kingfisher books? You seriously need to change that ASAP – you’re going to love her. Want to maybe do a buddy read from her backlist? It’s YUGE 😂

Yeah, there is so much going on!! I am loving the re-read a lot. I KNOW. I can’t believe it. haha. Let me look to see which ones I have. I think I have Nettle and Bone? Would you want to read that one?

I would absolutely love to do a buddy read of Nettle and Bone! I read it when it was an ARC and that was my intro to Kingfisher, but I forgot a lot of the story and remember that I really loved it.

Okay, I’m swamped right now with ARC’s through December… so maybe a January BR!
