Fae Friday – School

Fae Friday is an awesome new weekly post created by Kristy at Caffeinated Fae. I’m super excited to participate in this (and to have been an avid supporter of it from the beginning)! A topic is provided each week, and Kristy is so welcoming to ideas from others. If you have any ideas for topics, reach out to her through her blog or on Twitter (@caffeinatedfae).

Here’s the rules:

  • Link back to this page on Caffeinated Fae.
  • If the prompt idea comes from another blog, link to that blog as well.
  • Use #FaeFriday when posting to social media so we can all find each other!
  • Participate when you can and have fun with the prompt!

It’s officially time for school to start, so this curious wannabe fae wants to know: what is a book you enjoyed that takes place at a school?

Well, it’s obvious that schools start a few weeks earlier in other parts of the country than they do in New York, but I’m always game for books that are set in schools!

The first book that I recall reading that was set in a school was probably the Harry Potter series (by she who must not be named). However, there have been a lot of really great books set in schools that I’ve read since then.

The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan was set in a school (at least for part of the book), and I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the story!

Another amazing book was With the Fire on High by one of my new favorite authors, Elizabeth Acevedo.

The majority of another one of my favorite books of 2020 so far takes place in a school. You know I wasn’t going to skip yet another chance to shout aboutYou Should See Me in a Crown by Leah Johnson, right?

And how could I forget We Set the Dark on Fire by Tehlor Kay Mejia, which starts out at the Medio School for Girls?

Wow, I thought this was going to be a tough one to find books for, but instead I’m inundated with awesome books that took place in schools, and actually had to be reasonable and not wind up including a ton of books.

What books would you include?

  1. Great picks! All of these are on my TBR (it weeps!) but I’ve heard amazing things about them and can’t wait to *finally* read them because I think it’s way past time lol Loving how vibrant all of these covers are as well 😍

  2. Reposting my comment from Caffeinated Fae… 😉

Combining two FaeFriday topics, some of my favorite queer school stories are: Annie On My Mind, Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda, George, What We Left Behind, Symptoms of Being Human, and Carry On — that last one’s, in fact, a Fae-related queer school story (honestly, I’d love a story all about Trixie the pixie and her girlfriend)!
