Top Ten Tuesday used to be a weekly post hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, but was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl. “It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.” This is definitely something I can understand and want to participate in.
This week’s topic is questions I would ask my favorite authors.
I haven’t really thought much about interviewing authors, since I’ve always focused more on reading than anything else. But I guess if I ever got the chance to interview any of my favorite authors, I’d want to ask them questions like:
- Where do you get inspiration for your stories?
- Are your characters completely made up, or do they incorporate elements of people you actually know?
- Did you REALLY have to kill off [insert whichever character death broke my heart}?
- Which character are you the most like?
- If you could live in any one of the worlds you’ve created, which one would it be, and why?
- Who is your favorite author?
- What do you do to fill your time when you’re not writing?
- Background noise when writing – yea or nay? If yes, what kind?
- Is your mind really as dark and twisty as some of the darker elements in your books lead me to think?
- If you could have one superpower, what would it be?
So there’s my list! What would you ask your favorite authors?

I’d love to see the conversation after asking question three, like: EXPLAIN YOURSELF! haha. I’d also love to know the favorite authors of my favorite authors. That’s a smart one to ask!

Thanks! I feel like some authors probably get broken up about killing off a character, but I could totally see some (George R.R. Martin) just cackling a way as he kills off everyone lol

Haha and if you confront him about it he would just laugh like a villain.

Absolutely! And then he’d kill off even more (if he ever releases any more books). Not like I’m bitter or anything…

Haha! I totally get feeling bitter about it if you’ve been waiting for so long. Though I do feel bad for him. He really cant post anything online without a whole crowd of people yelling at him to finish the book 😅

I mean, it has been NINE YEARS. It’s a bit long to wait.

Yeah I get totally get that. Especially if your invested in the characters, it’s a long time to have to wait, not knowing when or if you’ll ever get a resolution. I’m just saying I wouldn’t want to be him 😂 The pressure is really on to make it a good ending, after the crazy outrage at the show’s finale.

Exactly! At this point I’ve given up on a resolution. I don’t really think he’ll actually finish the series.

Ooh, great list Leah! I would defo love to hear the answers to these from my faves. Don’t know if I’d be able to contain my emotions asking some authors the ‘why did you kill this character’ question 😂 LOL at the dark and twisty question! Wonder if they’d answer that one honestly haha

I always wonder about the dark and twisty, especially authors who write mystery/thrillers!

It’s always interesting to see which characters authors put themselves into.

Ahhh yes the third one! Even I had this one. If I got a penny for every time a book broke my heart, I’d have enough to buy a library I swear!
And the ninth question. Sometimes I wonder what the authors feel when they see such dark elements in their own stories. Maybe even they wonder what’s up. I like seriously wanna know the answer to this one.
Great list! Here’s my TTT: https://mellyfloous.wordpress.com/2020/08/26/questions-i-would-ask-my-favorite-authors/
