Fae Friday – Longevity

Fae Friday is an awesome new weekly post created by Kristy at Caffeinated Fae. I’m super excited to participate in this (and to have been an avid supporter of it from the beginning)! A topic is provided each week, and Kristy is so welcoming to ideas from others. If you have any ideas for topics, reach out to her through her blog or on Twitter (@caffeinatedfae).

Here’s the rules:

  • Link back to this page on Caffeinated Fae.
  • If the prompt idea comes from another blog, link to that blog as well.
  • Use #FaeFriday when posting to social media so we can all find each other!
  • Participate when you can and have fun with the prompt!

Faeries are known to have exceptionally long lives, and in certain lore, they’re immortal. The prompt this week is inspired by longevity. This week, this curious wannabe fae wants to know: What is the longest/largest book you have read?

Everyone who knows me, knows how much I love big books. And while I still haven’t gotten to The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon yet, I am definitely planning to before the end of the year. I swear it!

I wound up relying on the Goodreads website for page counts, because a) I don’t keep a running tally of books with high page counts that I’ve read, and b) due to financial concerns, I get the vast majority of my books through the library. So here’s some of the longest books that I’ve read!

  • The Fiery Cross by Diana Gabaldon (Outlander #5) had a whopping 1,443 pages!
  • A Storm of Swords by George R.R. Martin (A Song of Ice and Fire #3) had 1,177 pages.
  • An Echo in the Bone by Diana Gabaldon (Outlander #7) had 1,149 pages.
  • A Dance with Dragons by George R.R. Martin (A Song of Ice and Fire #5) had 1,125 pages.
  • A Feast for Crows by George R.R. Martin (A Song of Ice and Fire #4) had 1,061 pages.

I’m sure there are more, but that’s definitely the top 5 longest books that I could think of.

What about you? Are you a fan of big books? What are some of the longest ones you’ve read?

  1. I used to be more of an endurance reader in the past, but lately, I’ve been much happier with novellas and shorter novels. The plot and world-building have to seriously suck me in to keep me interested past 300 pages.

The longest book I’ve ever read is either one of the Harry Potters or one of the Jean Auels. The latter tend to go over 800.

  2. For me, if it is a really good book, then I want it to be REALLY long so the enjoyment is that much longer-lasting. If it is just a mediocre book, then I’d like it to be a normal length. The longest book I’ve read, however, is Lord of the Rings. AND IT WAS AWESOME!!!! Great post!
