Thank you to Gina L. Maxwell for providing me with an ARC of this book. I am offering my honest opinion voluntarily.
Kinky with a side of kidnapping…
Years ago, the media dubbed Daria Copeland as the Duchess of Debauchery, Melvania’s wild-child royal who parties her way through life and half the kingdom’s bachelors. For her part, Daria has worked hard to uphold that reputation, pandering to the public’s need for frequent gossip and the occasional scandal, regardless of the truth.
Izak Blackstone has been Daria’s personal bodyguard long enough to know she works as hard at hiding her heart of gold as she does maintaining the parade of men that come and go from her room. Not only a pain in the ass from a security perspective, but it also makes him want to murder every man who’s shared her bed while he was forced to guard the door.
Considering her extracurricular activities, it doesn’t surprise him when he discovers an arsenal of sex toys and kinky romance novels in her nightstand drawer…until she reveals her deepest secret—that the Duchess of Debauchery was actually an untouched virgin with unmet needs.
Done ignoring the intense chemistry between them, Izak will risk everything to fulfill Daria’s wildest fantasies and prove to her just how good they’ll be together. All he has to do now…is kidnap her.
*This story was previously published for a brief period as Perverted Duchess by Patience Parks, the former collaborative pen name of Gina L. Maxwell and Laura Wright. Gina L. Maxwell holds the copyright for this story. This version contains edits and significant additional content not found in the original edition.
I have yet to come across a Gina L. Maxwell book that I don’t love, and it was no different when I was reading the short by Patience Parks, even though I didn’t know it was a GLM story. My only complaint with that short story was that it was too short, so it appears that my wish was granted when it was reworked and re-released as this longer version. Although it’s more of a novella, it allows for more character development and a lot more content that I desperately wanted.
I loved seeing more of the characters’ thoughts and personalities, as well as the connection building between them. The fact that they’ve worked closely together, with Izak as Daria’s bodyguard for quite some time made it feel like an organic connection, rather than just lust. I was fully invested in the relationship between these two, and I absolutely love the way that GLM always makes sure that there’s more to the story than sexy times. There’s actual depth to her stories, even though the sexy times are so incredibly hot that I was worried my kindle might start smoking at any moment.
If you haven’t checked out any of her work, this is a great way to get into it, without having to commit to a full-length story. Just be prepared — I was hooked after reading just one of her stories. Now I can’t get enough.
