State of the ARC

State Of The ARC #40

State of the ARC is a monthly meme temporarily hosted by Sarah at All The Book Blog Names Are Taken meant to motivate you to finish up your long overdue ARCs (Advanced or Early Reader Copies). This is its original intention, while some bloggers have tweaked it a bit for their own purposes, such as just keeping ARCs in order by due dates. Or you can just be a hot mess like me who sometimes misses publishing dates (or ignores them altogether) and needs a way to stay organized on what has been read, reviewed, or is still begging for attention. Thank you to Evelina @ Avalinah’s Books for coming up with this super helpful monthly meme.

I finished May with 24 ARCs left to be read.

We’ve only just gotten through June, and it is already hot. It feels like I’ve been doing stuff every weekend, which has been really fun. But I seriously struggle with the heat, so I’ve been having a pretty tough time of it. Aside from the heat (it’s gotten into the 90s here a couple of days), the weather has been beautiful for the most part. I know a few 90 degree days aren’t much to complain about, and that so many parts of the country and the world have it way worse. At the moment, I’m grateful for air conditioning. VERY grateful.

Shoulder surgery recovery went much faster this month than last. I’ve recovered a pretty good range of motion already, and now I’m working on strengthening in my physical therapy sessions. So June was a pretty busy month, but I was doing a bunch of life things. I’ve also had to take on a more proactive role with helping my mother out with managing things around the house, so that’s cut into my time as well. Obviously, this led to me having less time available to read, but I find that sometimes being able to switch between audiobook and ARC is helpful, so I requested the audiobook versions of some ARCs that I already got approved for. I wound up with a bunch of new approvals, so I didn’t get anywhere near my own personal goal of reviewing more than I got approved for. But my ratio is currently at 93% and I’m okay with that.

I got approved for 11 new books in June:

  1. Modern Magic by Michelle Tea
  2. The Mirror by Nora Roberts
  3. A Sorceress Comes to Call by T. Kingfisher (audiobook)
  4. House of Glass by Sarah Pekkanen (audiobook)
  5. Castle of the Cursed by Romina Garber (audiobook)

  8. The Judgment of Yoyo Gold by Isaac Blum
  9. Sabor Judío by Ilan Stavans and Margaret E. Boyle
  10. Those Fatal Flowers by Shannon Ives

  1. First, I’m glad your surgery went well; and, I wish you a speedy recovery.

Second, did you mean that you read 24 ARCs in June???

Last, as always there are a few ARCs on your list that are on mine, too. We have A LOT of reading to do!

    • I absolutely did not read 24 ARCs in June – I read 5! I have 24 ARCs left to read for NG. I’m not surprised to see that you have the same ARCs to read, since we have similar taste in books.
