State of the ARC

State Of The ARC #43

State of the ARC is a monthly meme temporarily hosted by Sarah at All The Book Blog Names Are Taken meant to motivate you to finish up your long overdue ARCs (Advanced or Early Reader Copies). This is its original intention, while some bloggers have tweaked it a bit for their own purposes, such as just keeping ARCs in order by due dates. Or you can just be a hot mess like me who sometimes misses publishing dates (or ignores them altogether) and needs a way to stay organized on what has been read, reviewed, or is still begging for attention. Thank you to Evelina @ Avalinah’s Books for coming up with this super helpful monthly meme.

I finished August with 32 ARCs left to be read.

Anyone else think that September was the longest and Mondayest month we’ve had in a while? It might just be me, but it felt like this month would never end. Maybe it was the fact that the weather was so hot until just this past week, but I absolutely didn’t want to be outside any more than I had to for most of the month.

As usual, I’ve been trying to get through my overdue and current ARCs for the month, but have sadly failed epically at this. I’ve still been struggling with severe fatigue that makes it difficult for me to stay awake once a specific time hits every single day. Of course, that was the time I’d get the most reading done, and I keep falling behind.

Naturally, I need to start requesting only books that I know I’ll be able to get to review on or around the release date. I have been trying my best to catch up, and I reviewed a good number of ARCs but still haven’t gotten caught up yet. So the reduction in requests to only those that I desperately need ASAP has to happen, and I’ve been doing a lot better with that.

I got approved for only six books this month, with three of those being audiobooks and one being a cookbook, and I reviewed a bunch of books. I ended September with 5 less books on my ARC list than I started the month with, and I was thrilled to realize that my ratio has gone up to 94%!

I got approved for 6 new books in September:

  1. The Sequel by Jean Hanff Korelitz
  2. The Mirror by Nora Roberts (audiobook)
  3. A Dark and Secret Magic by Wallis Kinney
  4. Nosh by Micah Silva
  5. The Love Elixir of August Stern by Lynda Cohen Loigman (audiobook)
  6. The Whispering Night by Susan Dennard

I posted the review I didn’t get to from last month:

  1. Immortal Dark by Tigest Girma — see my review here.

    • Your ARC list is my ARC goals! I really try not to get carried away, but there were so many great books I couldn’t resist. Hopefully in a few more months, I’ll be able to say that my ARCs are in single digits!
