State of the ARC

State Of The ARC #63

State of the ARC is a monthly meme temporarily hosted by Sarah at All The Book Blog Names Are Taken meant to motivate you to finish up your long overdue ARCs (Advanced or Early Reader Copies). This is its original intention, while some bloggers have tweaked it a bit for their own purposes, such as just keeping ARCs in order by due dates. Or you can just be a hot mess like me who sometimes misses publishing dates (or ignores them altogether) and needs a way to stay organized on what has been read, reviewed, or is still begging for attention. Thank you to Evelina @ Avalinah’s Books for coming up with this super helpful monthly meme.

I finished April with 23 ARCs left to be read.

The weather has been up and down in New York—it’s going from temps in the 80s to temps in the 50s. There have been some big thunderstorms and a lot of rain, so at least I know the outside plants have plenty of water. It finally feels like spring, just as summer is rolling in. There’s nothing nicer than being outside and seeing all the greenery and flowers bloom in a New York springtime.

I’m still adding things to my Vinted site, and I might have a mild obsession with this app. Originally, I thought it was just for clothing, but purses, shoes, electronics, and home goods, so I’ve been having a blast adding more to it. If you’re interested in the link, just ask in the comments.

May was a bit of a rough month. In the first week, I was driving down a local road, and someone came flying out of a parking lot and T-boned the car. It’s totaled, so we have a rental car in traffic vest neon green, but we’re hard at work getting a new car. Not in neon green for sure! I hurt my shoulder in the accident, but it could have been so much worse, and I’m grateful that’s all that happened.

Mom and I have been attending quite a few appointments, and I’m trying my best to get her a case manager through insurance, so that we can get some help with issues that I’m unable to handle on my own. Mom is reliant on me for so much, and it’s been a tough job juggling her needs with my own. I find myself putting my needs to the back burner on a regular basis, but I know you can’t pour from an empty cup, so I’ve been trying to do things that restore my sense of self outside of being a caretaker. I went to a distillery near my house last weekend because my college roommate has formed a band that plays 90s and 2000s cover songs, and they’re really good! I had a blast, and knew almost all the words to every song, which was fun. Everyone had a good time, and I felt much renewed.

I haven’t gotten through anywhere near as many ARCs as I wanted to, something I say literally every single month. I did manage to read and review two, but also got approved for so many new books it dropped by ratio to 93%. All I did was go through my emails and I found a bunch of books I’m approved for, and wound up with a whole mess of books to read and review on top of the towering pile of physical ARCs and books I want to read to further my learning and personal growth. I did get approved for a lot of books that sound fantastic, and I can’t wait to get to them. Fortunately, two are just audio versions of e-books I was approved for, so hopefully June will help me move my NetGalley reading list into a semblance of order.

Here’s how this month went for my NG ARCs:
