Fae Friday is an awesome new weekly post created by Kristy at Caffeinated Fae. I’m super excited to participate in this (and to have been an avid supporter of it from the beginning)! A topic is provided each week, and Kristy is so welcoming to ideas from others. If you have any ideas for topics, reach out to her through her blog or on Twitter (@caffeinatedfae).
Here’s the rules:
- Link back to this page on Caffeinated Fae.
- If the prompt idea comes from another blog, link to that blog as well.
- Use #FaeFriday when posting to social media so we can all find each other!
- Participate when you can and have fun with the prompt!
It’s #FaeFriday and I bet you already knew what this week’s prompt would be. What book didn’t live up to the hype?
This one was an easy choice for me, since I waited such a long time to read it. It felt like literally everyone (except ONE person I know) was raving about how amazing and life-changing this book was, and then I read it and I kept waiting for it to get good, and … I never felt like it did.
Can you guess which book I thought was totally overhyped?
OK, it was The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab.
There was one more book that was super hyped, and I read the entire thing and didn’t see why it was so hyped. It was The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. I honestly just don’t vibe with her books at all, since I’ve tried The Starless Sea and couldn’t get into it.
What were some books that you didn’t think lived up to the hype?

You’re kidding! I’ve been so looking forward to reading Addie Larue. Can I ask.. Why didn’t you like it?

Wah, I’m so sad to hear this 😢 I think that’s why I’m letting myself continue to push off reading it. I love Schwab a heckuva lot but I think this book of hers also has the most hype ever and I’m terrified I won’t love it 😂 Silly, I know, but obviously very possible book twin!
A hyped book I felt was overrated was The Night Circus 🙊

I absolutely loved her Monsters of Verity series, but Addie LaRue just didn’t work for me 😬 and we are absolutely book twins because I also felt like The Night Circus was super overrated! (I actually included it as a runner up this week)

The ending saved it a little for me so I didn’t completely hate it but I was expecting much more since everyone loves it so much.

Hey, that’s what makes the bookish community so interesting – if we all liked and disliked the same books, we wouldn’t have anything to talk about!

I didn’t get the hype of Addie Larue… either….but it was enjoyable enough. But not that good as people claimed it to be. It was a bit too slow…too repetitive…and whole lot of other reasons. But it was enjoyable yeah. I didn’t like the red Queen….for me that was a book that didn’t live up to the hype. Lovely post! I just found your blog! And I love your theme and style ❤️

Honestly, I think I wouldn’t have enjoyed it even if it wasn’t hyped. But I definitely would have DNFd it. I only stuck it out to see what the hubbub was all about!

I feel the same way about The Night Circus! Just finished reviewing it and I definitely think it was overhyped! The romance ticked me off because it felt too insta-lovey and that is my least favorite thing in a book.
