TTT – NetGalley Rejections That Hurt My Ego

Top Ten Tuesday used to be a weekly post hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, but was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl. “It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.” This is definitely something I can understand and want to participate in.

So I mixed up the prompts and did this week’s prompt last week, and last week’s prompt was too similar to a Friday Favorites post that I did recently, so I was kind of in a fix for this week’s TTT. Instead, I decided to revisit a previous prompt and talk about the 10 most disappointing denials I’ve gotten on NetGalley recently. This is one that I can always talk about because I’m the worst about enforcing a NetGalley requesting ban. Here’s the recent rejections that hurt me the most:

  1. Wrath Becomes Her by Aden Polydoros — can I just get approved for a single one of his books? Seriously? I get declined for every single one.
  2. To Have and To Heist by Sara Desai — I love her books, and was incredibly disappointed not to get this one.
  3. Everyone Here is Lying by Shari Lapena — her mystery/thrillers are fantastic, and it was like a punch in the teeth to get denied.
  4. The Whispers by Ashley Audrain — I was overjoyed to see this on NG, and ready to cry when I got denied.
  5. The Only Survivors by Megan Miranda — I requested this right after finishing a different book by the same author, and was so hoping to get this. Alas, I did not.
  6. Business or Pleasure by Rachel Lynn Solomon — as a lover of RLS books, I was so prepared to get approved for this. My heart sank when I didn’t.
  7. The True Love Experiment by Christina Lauren — for the love of all that’s holy, why can’t I ever get approved for a CL book?
  8. Margo Zimmerman Gets the Girl by Sara Waxelbaum and Brianna R. Shrum — NG ruined my whole day by denying me this book.
  9. Mrs. Nash’s Ashes by Sarah Adler — this one sounded like such a fun read, and I was miserable to hear that I wasn’t going to access an ARC.
  10. Happy Place by Emily Henry — another author I can’t get an ARC for no matter what I do. Are they expecting me to offer up a kidney?

What are some of your more recent NG rejections that hurt the most?

  1. Sorry for the denials. I get denied by Berkley every single time, it’s a real bummer. For some reason I keep torturing myself and requesting from them. I got People we Meet on Vacation but not Happy Place. Good figure.

    • That’s how it is with Edelweiss for me – I’ve never gotten approved for anything. but I get approved for more than I get rejected, so I can’t really complain. I’m really excited for Wrath Becomes Her. Aden Polydoros is a fantastic writer.

    • It seems like everyone has! I wonder who actually has gotten approved for Happy Place. I’ll eventually get my hands on a copy through the library once it isn’t in super high demand and on a 6 month wait list.

    • Mine has been in the mid 90s for months, so I have no idea why they denied me! I’m a model NetGalley member! *cries* I’ve yet to see anyone say they have gotten approved for it!
