State of the ARC

State Of The ARC #64

State of the ARC is a monthly meme temporarily hosted by Sarah at All The Book Blog Names Are Taken meant to motivate you to finish up your long overdue ARCs (Advanced or Early Reader Copies). This is its original intention, while some bloggers have tweaked it a bit for their own purposes, such as just keeping ARCs in order by due dates. Or you can just be a hot mess like me who sometimes misses publishing dates (or ignores them altogether) and needs a way to stay organized on what has been read, reviewed, or is still begging for attention. Thank you to Evelina @ Avalinah’s Books for coming up with this super helpful monthly meme.

I finished May with 40 ARCs left to be read.

June was another busy month for me. There were a lot of medical appointments for me and my mother, and we had to follow up on a few things. We ended up getting a new car after the old one was totaled, and wound up with a new Chevy Equinox. There is so much to learn about how the car works now—I had to get used to a push-button start, paddle shifters, and a car that has a computer screen instead of the little radio display. It’s like learning how to drive a spaceship!

Vinted is a lifesaver. I got a really cool item I wanted for under $6, and I’ve continued selling old clothes, shoes, purses, jewelry, and anything else I want to get rid of. Having a lot of stuff is great when you have a house to put it into, but I’m trying to downsize so I can clear some of the clutter out of my room.

Mom and I have been getting along better, and have finally found some good compromises about the temperature (she’s always cold, I’m literally melting all the time), finding a balance between my own time and the time I devote to caring for and helping my mother, and I’ve been showing her various movies and shows, trying to get her interested in something new now that we’ve watched all the available episodes of The Rookie and High Potential. Turns out she really likes the Jack Ryan show, and I really do too, so we’ve been watching 2-3 episodes a day most days. I also found some time to attend a local food festival where my friend’s band was playing, so I got to hear some good music and check out some of the awesome food trucks and vendors here on Long Island. Also, we’ve been trying to make more of a regular practice of attending synagogue. Maybe not every week, but at least once a month, and we had a great time.

Normally, this is the point where I complain about not reading as many ARCs as I was hoping to, but I am blown away by how many of my NG ARCs I was able to review. I’m so happy to say that I was approved for quite a few, but reviewed even more and made a dent in my NetGalley TBR. I got through some audiobooks rather quickly, and was thrilled to see my ratio go back to 94%. Hopefully I will be able to continue this momentum and make some progress on the already published books that have been piling up while still trying to read and review more before they get published. I’m really excited about some of the new ARCs I was approved for, so this should be a fun summer when it comes to books. And with temps as hot as they are, it looks like I’m going to be indoors for a lot of the time.
