I was tagged to do this by Riddhi at Whispering Stories. Considering that I’ve only recently connected with her, she really hit the nail on the head by inviting me to complete a book tag that combines two of my most favorite interests — books and music! It took me a long time to get around to doing this, but better late than never.
MY JAM:
A song you have to listen to no matter how many times you’ve heard it before
and
A book you’ll never get sick of
Truth Hurts by Lizzo. I listen to this song every single time it comes on!
I don’t often reread books, but the series A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin is one that I can always reread. I already pick up something new when I read them.
THROWBACK:
A song that reminds you of the cringiest time in your life
and
A book you read that you wouldn’t like if you were to read it now
Hmm, there’s a lot of cringy times in my life, but I’d have to say that Seven Nation Army by The White Stripes brings back memories of some hard times in my past. I still can’t listen to that song!
Twilight by Stefenie Meyer. How do I know? I tried it, and it was just … painful to get through.
REPLAY:
A recent song that you have on repeat
and
A recent favorite book
WAP by Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion. I don’t listen to a lot of recent music, but I like this one.
The Henna Wars by Adiba Jaigirdir was a book that I just absolutely fell in love with.
GETS ME:
A song that is literally me
and
A book that is me in book form
I don’t know if there’s one song out there that is literally me, but I’m really vibing with Bad Guy by Billie Eilish lately.
Jeez, me in BOOK FORM? Maybe The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang, as terrible as that sounds. I think it would be really hard to predict how anyone could react when put into situations like Rin was, but knowing me, I would also turn to anger and destruction rather than feel the more painful emotions.
WUT:
A weird song that you liked anyway
and
A unique book that stuck out to you for some reason
I Fink You Freeky by Die Antwoord is a super weird song, with an even weirder video, but there’s something about it that I absolutely love.
Black Sun by Rebecca Roanhorse. The whole story and setting was just so unique and I really enjoyed the whole bumpy ride. I’m dying for the next book to come out already!
LET’S GO:
Pick your best pump up song
and
A book that inspires you
Mad Dash by Carl Tricks was always my work out jam. It has a great beat, and good energy to it.
One to Watch by Kate Stayman-London was a pretty inspiring read. I loved the body-positive message, the diversity that didn’t feel forced, and the emotional hurdles that were overcome.
CHILL:
Your best relaxing song
and
A book you’d curl up with on a rainy day
Fade Into You by Mazzy Star has always been a go-to relaxing song, since I was in my teen years.
As if I need a specific book to curl up with on a rainy day? As long as it’s something good, I’m happy! But if I had to choose, I’d tuck into a nice fantasy or mystery.
ADDICTING:
A guilty pleasure song
and
A light, trashy read you can’t help but love
I seriously LOVE Gasoline by Halsey. I can’t pass it without listening to it. Either that or Y.A.L.A. by M.I.A.
I can’t help but love any books that I’ve read by Katee Robert. I love her writing style and that none of the books are heavy or overwhelming.
NOSTALGIA:
A throwback song you look back on fondly
and
A book you read and loved when you were young
Stone the Crow by Down. This always brings back great memories, and I’ve seen them in concert a few times and always enjoyed it.
I remember reading a lot of books, but I loved The Babysitters Club series. It helped me run an effective babysitting business of my own!
So that’s all I’ve got — here’s who I’m tagging:

Ooh, what a FUN tag! 😃 I love Truth Hurts and I LOVE Halsey so much even from her early days/album. Gasoline is a great song! Billie Eilish is also amazing and ‘bad guy’ is a really great track too! I do listen to a lot of new hits but I actually still haven’t listened to WAP yet (even with the ‘controversy’ around it)! Haha I’m surprised at myself tbh 😂 I can’t wait to do this one too–thanks for tagging me, Leah!

I’m so excited to see your answers! I didn’t link the song for WAP because I don’t think everyone would appreciate it 😂 but you should at least listen to it once! Plus, this tag was fun because it gave me the chance to show off some of my quirky taste in music 😝

I was reading through your answers and thinking this was such a fun tag and you tagged me!! Yay!! Books and music are two of my very favorite things, as well. I can’t wait to do this one. ❤ And I love Fade Into You!

I’m so glad I tagged you, then! I love how that works out. Isn’t that a great song? I’ve loved it since My So-Called Life was on TV!

I really love surreal AF music videos. 🤪 The fun thing about “Fink U Freaky,” too, is that you almost can’t hear the swear words because they’re said so fast and with such a strong accent. Like, I could imagine some teen assuring their parents, “No, no, he didn’t say ___, he said [insert barely similar word]!” 😅

And it isn’t all in English! The group is from South Africa, so it’s an awesome mix of English and Afrikaans. The first time my nephew played that video I was just like “wuttttttt” but I totally dug the song and have become a fan of the group.

P.S. You actually started your own Babysitters’ Club??? I’m so jealous! Deets, plz! Perhaps even a post in the future? This is a legit Out-of-the-Books Experience! (no pressure, of course! 😉)

hahahaha I was the only one in the club. I started my own babysitting business! But I definitely took notes from the series.

Did you bring the BSC Guide to Babysitting with you to every job? You know, in case the kid fell down the stairs while ingesting something questionable during a fire? (I just listened to a podcast episode about that exact book 😂)
