  • Series: Fix-It Witches #2

CONTENT WARNING: toxic family relationships

Rating: 5 out of 5.

The second in an adorable witchy rom-com series by New York Times bestselling author Ann Aguirre, perfect for fans of:

Ride-or-die female friendships

A bisexual heroine who stubbornly refuses to accept help

A hero with an incredibly pesky moral conscience

A mouse named Benson who may or may not have all the answers to life, magic, and love (Spoiler: he does!)

Clementine Waterhouse is a perfectly logical witch. She doesn’t tumble headlong into love. Rather she weighs the pros and cons and decides if a relationship is worth pursuing. At least that’s always been her modus operandi before. Clem prefers being the one in charge, always the first to walk away when the time is right. Attraction has never struck her like lightning.

Until the witch hunter comes to town.

Gavin Rhys hates being a witch hunter, but his family honor is on the line, and he needs to prove he’s nothing like his grandfather, a traitor who let everyone down. But things in St. Claire aren’t what they seem, and Gavin is distracted from the job immediately by a bewitching brunette with a sexy smile and haunting secrets in her eyes.

Can the bossiest witch in town find a happy ending with the last person she should ever love?

I loved book 1 (Witch Please), and loved this one even more! The series focuses on witches living in a small Midwestern town, and I adored the characters so much.

While the first book focused on Danica, this one is all about Clementine. They’re cousins who live together and own an electronics repair shop called Fix-It Witches, where they use their magical powers to complete repairs. This book overlaps a bit with the events of Witch Please, but it’s told from the missing side of the story, so it never felt boring or repetitive.

Clementine is a woman who is under immense amounts of stress, not just from picking up Danica’s slack while she falls in love with Titus, but also managing the ton of family issues that she has. Her grandmother is manipulative, bigoted, and scheming, and hasn’t yet come to terms with the unfriendly divorce that Clem’s mother went through, despite it being long ago.

Gavin is a British witch hunter, who was sent to town to find out what’s triggering the magical flares. But he didn’t count on being led astray by Clem. Gavin has his own family and professional issues, with an overbearing and horrible father, and some career concerns. So when these two star-crossed lovers fall for each other, it isn’t a great situation for either of them. But … the heart wants what the heart wants, right?

The author not only developed two awesome MCs, she also created a wide range of side characters that were super lovable as well. There’s great representation in ages, with some characters being older, different ethnicities, and plenty of LGBTQ rep. I adored seeing all of this, and was hooked on the story from the very first chapter. Ok, I’m lying. I knew I was going to love this story even before I started, because I wanted to know more about Clem and her whirlwind romance! The plot was absorbing, with both characters having separate struggles as well as struggling together, and it made for a fast and enjoyable read. And the audiobook version of this was wonderful! Now, to figure out how I’m going to be able to wait for the next book to be out.
